ATI 5870 vs Quadro 600

Hello, I currently have an ATI 5870. I am starting to do a lot more work inside of Maya, Photoshop, and After Effects, gaming is not a big part of my average day. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if the Quadro 600 will provide any additional speed over the 5870 inside of those programs? I know Quadro cards are professional cards whereas the 5870 is a consumer grade card. I just want to know if this specific professional grade card will speed up Maya compared to the 5870. I am looking for a cheap solution for the moment. Later when I decide to do a full upgrade I will be buying a Quadro 5000. Right now I am just curious as to whether or not the 600 can handle more complex Maya scenes than the 5870.

Do you know how much of a speed increase the Quadro 600 will provide over the 5870?

as long as maya is OpenGl you'll see performance difference, I suggest you to go with firepro v4900 from AMD(it's newer and cost isn't much different)

but I don't suggest you to buy quadro 5000 as long as you really know what are you doing(buy quadro 4000 instead)

I know what I am doing. But like I said, I am looking for a temporary solution solution at the moment before I do a full upgrade.

I think its all about memory bandwith, try overclocking your memory in your 5870.

I have heard multiple times that it is much more complicated than that. So do you have anything to backup your claim?

From what I understand, professional cards, both Quadro and Firepro, are specifically designed and optimized for professional applications whereas consumer grade cards don't have any real optimization. Instead, they just throw it together for raw power.

For example, this article shows that a 5870 gets killed by a Firepro V8750 inside of Maya even though the 5870 obviously has more raw power and looks better on paper.

Drivers, optimization, application support, all that good stuff makes professional GPUs faster than consumer GPUs in professional applications. overclocking the memory wouldn't really do anything, especially compared to a real professional card.

Right now I am just looking for someone who can help me figure out which card would be better and how much better it would be than the 5870.
