I have a Windows XP system, with <subject> installed on it. I have
the latest version of the Multimedia center (9.1 IIRC), latest drivers
for both of these cards, and the latest patches from the Windows
update site.

For some reason, pausing live TV doesn't work properly, in two ways:
(a) Once paused, video is paused as you'd expect, but audio isn't.
That is, the ATI software, which is supposed to mute the audio going
to the sound card fails to do it. At least that's what it seems like.
(b) Once I press Play, video resumes immediately from the live feed,
instead of from the point in which I pressed Pause. I think that it's
not what's supposed to happen.
(c) Perhaps most annoying of them all - once I resume, audio and video
are out of sync by about half a second. It stays that even if I close
the TV app and rerun it.

I've waited for some time and tried many different versions of the
Multimedia Center (8.x, 9.1), but it doesn't seem as if this problem
is about to go away. Does anybody have any idea?

The computer is fairly new, by the way, a P4/2.66GHz, with 512MB RAM
and 7200rpm/8MB cache disks. I don't think it's any kind of latency
issue with the hardware...

I had the same exact problem with 9800pro AIW, SBLive 5.1 and XP
until I did a couple of clean installs of XP. Could'n get to the input
menu on the install wizard after that problem started.

On the first XP install, I use the latest SB dirvers. Using the volume
control on the remote changes the volume on the line in. That worked
for a little while. It started changing the volume on the wave slider.
Somethimes on the master volume. Then the cd slider. WTF?

On the second XP install I used the windows audio drivers. Now I know
how this volume control bug starts. I can reproduce it any time. I not
talking about the echo bug.

Start any mixer applet like creative mixer, the windows mixer, audio
sliders ect.

Now start the TV app. Change the volume slider on the ATI player, or
from the remote. Notice how the line in slider moves on the mixer?
That's normal I guess.

Now change the master volume on the windows or and other mixer.
Try the volume control on the remote. The master volume control slider
now moves. The mute button now mutes the master volume also.

Close the TV app, the restart the TV. Line in slider now works again
until the master volume is adjusted.

This is with the latest Cats, MMC 9.1, and 9.1 dao-mdac.

Also either the MMC or the Gemstar soft has some serious memory leaks.

So my advice is to do a clean install of XP.
Install the Intel inf install.
DX9.
Get all the windows updates.
Install all your software.
dao-mdac
Cats
MMC

It should work if installed in that order. You'll still get the volume
bug. Just don't change the master volume with the tv app open.

Does anybody know if this happens with other brands of soundcards??
