Obtuse and I are on the same page. what exactly they are doing doesn't matter so long as the results it produces are the same. That very guide line is the one thing that was stressed so heavily when Nvidia first tried to pull it. They lost image quality and so they were slapped on the wrist. ATi has kept the quality, thusly no slap can be administered because they held to the guide line.

I will tell you what i am upset about though. The price they are being released at. I was lookign forward to the new cards coming out at the same range that evey other card has come out at new for the last few years and driving the price of the current high ends down to a reasonable level. Witht hem being so high above where the current ones are the has been virtually no shift in prices. Other then that ATi still rocks.

What am i excited about? The catchign of the Half-life 2 hackers. I was pissed about that. What i can't wait for now is for them to reveal that they were actually hired by Nvidia in part of a secret plot to steal some steam from ATi untill they(Nvidia) could get a card that didn't suck and look like cheese smeared across nylons. Then, THEN!, the baloon will go up.
 
ok so you don't think it's unethical that Ati promised full trilinear buffering and then gave only bilinear in and furthermore this could have potentionaly influenced test scores unfairly?

After reading this I didn't realize you were trying to start a debate. It seemed poking fun of your mistake was an appropriate response to a topic such as this.

Anyway, look over the past 6 pages or so and you'll see many topics about ATI's filtering/cheating/lieing, etc. I'm not too upset that they are optimizing because the IQ is still very good. To me it is small compared to NV's past year or two. But I am not too happy with ATI for the way they handled it and tried to slip it by and request testing methods. Yes, It's a blemish on their name/record to me. ie: They did sink a notch in my book. But I am interested in reading where it all goes and what ATI does from here on out. Hopefully they learn from NV's huge mistakes.

Anyway, Kinney, since I know you are big on NV's superior driver support, let me congratulate you; I see NV is still hard at work making magic drivers. Three version already for a card we still can't buy. Good job guys.

Clearly he even stated he was talking about the 'mem'ory.

So now you want to back-pedal? And you article by the register doesn't even mention the cores that can and can't be moded. Not a worthwhile read really.

God who really cares ? I mean, at the end of the day, whoever has the fastest card with great visuals at a reasonable price gets my money. And so far thats been ATI, Nvidia doesn't match the image quality of ATI, and I'm sure that if ATI lowered their quality to the same level as Nvidia then there cards would be so much faster, but still, when the new card is actually released, then we shall see what we will see. I don't give a toss for pre production cards simply because all the componentry is hand picked and the BEST card is the one that they send out to reviewers.

Hell it's only a video card, and the differance between them is fairly small, it's not like they have just been caught picking your pocket. If what they said is untrue, if it's false and misleading advertising, then I'm sure (as in the case of the new Apple macs) that the authorities would have charged them by now with some offence.

Nvidia/ATI, I don't care which one I buy, it all depends on who gives me the most bang for my buck, and I have the feeling that the majority of the people who bitch about the latest cards are the one least likely to buy either, and the reason ? because they cost so damn much. We may as well argue about the differance between a porche and a ferrari, both great cars, both have there own fanaticle following, and both priced out of the reach of the ordinary consumer.

Nvidia does match ATi's quality and speed too. With Far Cry's 1.1 patch the 6800 series has no banding and all bugs are fixed too.

Farriri's are nicer thats why the price tag is 3 times higher then a porche :)
 
But porches give you more bang for the buck and there visuals are better ! and arn't ferrari guilty of cheating as well, I mean, not everybody drives like Schumaker, he could make a pinto look good.
