p55 board here (gigabyte) Intel i5 750, DDR3 1600, Sapphire 5770. Black screen lockups in Half Life 2 and Fallout 3, buzzing sound noise. Thought about RMA and then found this (and many other) forums with the same problem. Looks like I'm SOL for the time being.

Followed Tom's suggestion to go with ATI, now starting to regret it... arg arg arg.

[citation][nom]rambo117[/nom]Now the question is: but can it run purple place?xD[/citation]
Purble Place is now a viable gaming performance benchmark. 😛

Kudos to ATI for somehow releasing a hotfix for this stuff.

same problem even after installing the hotfix... using Win7 Ultimate 64bit and Sapphire 5850... ATI really have crappy drivers, they are the best in the driver business when in comes to crappyness

I just install 5770 on my brother's PC, when I install windows7 this happen but on XP no problem show's while playing games, hope they can release a fix on 5700 card soon because my brother loves win7. 🙁

Reminds me of the type of video artifacts / errors I would get when programming SVGA code in DOS days and getting the memory offsets wrong...

Hardware BitBLT function on the card has a memory leak?

DOS chops, gotta love 'em

Same issue here, installed hotfix but still get stripes on screen. It probably takes 3-5 times as long now before it happens. As for FPS drop I havent noticed any but then again I havent started playing ME2 in any depth yet, I am just getting started into Stalker Call of Pyrapt.

[citation][nom]tpi2007[/nom]hmmm... in the hotfix page it says "alleviates".. in my dictionary alleviate means "to make something less severe".Does this mean they have no way of solving the problem?[/citation]
Could just be spin-doctoring of course. If they call it a "fix" it implies that it was broken to begin with. Calling it something else implies it was mearly a mild annoyance and we can all get back to spending our money on new cards.
Good tactic.

[citation][nom]inglburt[/nom]Personally I think that Nvidia is just alot better at lying and their fans are alot more stubborn[/citation]

Nvidia fans are stubborn? You my friend are the pot calling the kettle black. Let's see...

AMD finally (somewhat) fixes a huge problem and people are saying "hooray AMD!!!". They blamed the problem on a win7 update although it was happening in XP, Vista and Win7. So in that respect you might be right, they are not good liars, but liars none the less.

They rushed their product to the market, just like MS did with the 360. But with AMD fanboys (I run a 4850) they just kneel down and take it while bashing Nvidia in the process.

The one guy who stated the obvious was thumbed down for telling the truth. Am currently waiting for my post to be thumbed down because I'm not gonng suck their **** for almost fixing a problem.

I like my ATI card, alot actually. But I do alot of research before purchasing and if AMD/ATI don't get their shit together I will just hold off another generation (I am interested in Fermi but assume it will be too much $$$).

I give you a thumbs up 😛

Is there also a hotfix for the 4800 cards? I have the same problem with mass effect 2....

I spent almost $200 euros buying the 5770 to play 3d games. Doing so is impossible due to the gray lines error. Thus, I have not only wasted $200 euros but I also need to buy another card if I want to play any 3d game. I believe that Tomshardware should take these issues seriously when reviewing a product. They should warn their customers for defected products like the 5700 series instead of giving nice reviews.

To ALL 5970 users (like me): I experienced this from the moment I got my card, and found no solution.. UNTIL someone told me about the 10.3 beta drivers! After install + reboot EVERYTHING WORKED JUST FINE!!!!!

I had all the issues with the card. Grey vertical lines etc..
Tryed it all!
Ended up with me sending it back.
got a new one. and everything works like a charm!
Same drivers and everything!!

I have Core i5 750, asus P55 Deluxe pro, DDR3, Win7(x32)and XFX 5770. Support said they're working on issue then told me to install CCC 10.2. No difference. Tried reducing voltages and settings with Overdrive. No difference. Every game = vertical bars/lines or black screen with/without audio issues.

Hi, I have an HD3870 , I know it is an old product ...have CCC 10.6 plus the hotfix and I have had Serious Sam HD crash with "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding etc etc" .....read zillions of posts about this ....seems to occur for both NVIDIA and ATI cards ....does anyone know the actual cause of this ...people seem to claim this is a microsoft bug.!! (I'm on w7 ultimate 64 bit)
Any feedback welcome.
