In the case of far cry, it would only increase speed I imagine. I don't think they're adding any new shaders, just doing the same stuff using ps3, more efficiently.

I agree though, that ps3 would be nice to have, and I'm a little dissappointed ATI dosn't have it. But we'll see how it turns out in the end, cause maybe it really won't be a necessity for this gen.

I personally dont care which one they use in games.. like you said both are 'good stuff'.

The part I'm surprised, and glad about is that shader model 3.0 is a part of the already ratified DX9 standard.. this will help in getting cutting edge games use it.. even if only for speed or simplification reasons as WS stated.

If you find any other good shader 3.0 links, I'd appreciate it if you reply to one of my posts with it so I dont miss it. You had those cool shader 3.0 demos.
