[citation][nom]spaztic7[/nom] Without AMD, prices for processors go up, prices for video cards goes up, [/citation]

Prices are already way to high even with ATI LOL...
I mean come on Quad SLI and Tri Sli and Crossfire X lol...

yes... true...

I was talking about single card solutions... Shoulda made it clearer.

Even single card solutions are way to expensive, but mid range is not that bad. In my opinion though high end cards should be priced like the mid range and mid range should be lower. But whatever I'm a sucker I bought 2 8800GTX when they came out lol.

[citation][nom]kashiwa_0423[/nom]9800GTX is just an overclocked 8800GTS 512mb [/citation]

I hate it when people say that. Yes the 9800 GTX produces the performance of a highly overclocked 8800 GTS G92, but you can overclock the 9800 GTX almost as much, so it is NOT an overclocked 8800 GTS G92, since it can be pushed to performance levels far surpassing the 8800 GTS G92. That is like saying a watercooled and highly overclocked 8800 GT is just an 8800 GTX, that's not true, the 8800 GTX can be overclocked to atleast the performance of a stock 8800 Ultra.

What we need is revolutionary performance from a single card without a 240W TDP. Neither NVIDIA nor ATI seem to bring that to the table in this round. I'll pass.

great news. ATI/AMD has learned from the flaws the r600 had and has took care of them. im pretty sure these will be a great succes preformance price wise it hits the right spot for me. also its TDP dous great as it can run without a 8+6 pin supply.

It seems and interesting card.i hope with no delays and less power draw tha its ancestor but at the same attractive starting prices.

Another one thing and sorry for disturbing but there is no Alexander Makedonski as historical person and this is totally wrong an inaccurate. You can call Alexander the Great,Alexander son of Filipos king of Macedonia,Alexander king of Macedonia,Commander of an army (as rank) Alexander the Great (not the former Vardaska (Skopje) want's to be called Macedonia modified version of history) search ancient Hellenic (Greek) history. The author should consider of correcting the article.

AMD Late to the party?
Maybe a little. Though it's really amazing how fast and how much they're caught up now compared to 18 months ago. I'm a bit skeptical on the performance though I'm sure the prices will be reasonable. I know I'm buying an ATI either way just for the progress they are and have been doing on the Linux front. I'm waiting to see benchmarks to decide whether to get a 4850 or 4870. Right now I'm using a 3650 ddr2 which is serving me quite well for it's sub 100$ price tag. I gave one to my then g/f to replace a NV 6100IGP and I discovered that even non geeky girls can get excited over a piece of computer hardware if there is significant improvement in Sims2 =]

The Radeon 4800 series also includes 7.1 channel-via-HDMI support and color output also got a “significant” boost, our sources said. We were unable to confirm HDMI 1.3 support, but we would not be surprised if that in fact is the case.
Finally, 7.1 support. I'm an nVidia fan but sorry nVidia, ATi has you beat in this sense. :)

one helluwa June
Isn't it "helluva"?

i am wondering if the 4850s and the 4870s will be crossfire compatiable. thinking about starting off with a 4850 then getting a 4870 then getting 4870X2 and probably selling 4850 to buy a 4870....

im still not sure what system to build over the summer.... 790I board plus intel E8400 wolfdale and SLI? 790FX +9850 black edition for crossfire? or a 780A board with 9850 black edition for SLI? jeez choices choises. at least i can buy the essentials like optical drive PSU heatsink+fan and memory HD and OS first before i make my final decision.

Ok, I love AMD, but if you are not stuck with an AM2 board then there is no reason to get a 9850, especially if you are looking at an E8400. Secondly, if you want some crossfire action then buy an X38/X48 chipset, they are stable as a rock and are much higher quality than an Nforce boards. I personally am behind ATI just because I want to ditch my Nforce board really badly.

I am with you 100% on this one. I am starting to hate my evga 680i sli mobo. I believe the raid controller is going, it asks me to reseat or change the clocks on my cpu (q6600... not over clocked... running everything at stock speed), began having issues oc my RAM (it would not get very high, about DDR2 1000 speed. But this has been fixed with the latest bios, not stable at 1066). I know the OC part is not necessarily the mobo's fault, and I don’t blame it to much for that. But I am getting pissed at it when it says raid access failure.

I replaced both HD and on two bran new ones, it does the same thing (thus making me think its the raid controller going).

It says it rated up to 8 gb of ram, but I cant boot with 8 gigs because of a checksum error. I can have all for slots filled and boot fine (like 1gigx4) but not with 8 gigs. I am running vista 64, but this is a bios error not a windows error. Evga customer support has been little to no help at all on this topic. They kind of disregard my e-mails and give me a round about way of saying nothing.

So, I am wanting to trash my 680i and move to a x38/x48 but I can figure out which one is better than the other. I will be getting a DDR2 one (mainly because I would rather by gas and food than DDR3 ram). WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE x38 AND x48!?!?!?!?!

these are the two that I am looking at.

Our sources indicated that 4870 GDDR5 cards will cost between $249 and $279, but somehow we feel that AMD might aim go for $199 and $249 at launch.

If it's not $199 online I'll probably buy Nvidia 8800gt or 8800 gts, the 3870 is slower so no point in upgrading to 4870 unless they're faster and got the bang of the buck. Also running Crysis I want the card to be able to handle it without showing problems and freezes.

I still cannot believe people are paying $400-500 for a video card. I still cannot get past paying more than $200 after taxes.

25% slower and 10% cheaper does not compute.

I am with you on that. But I have tougher requirements. I want to be able to play Crysis or any high end game but it must play at 1920x1200 average about 40-50 fps with a minimal drop for 30 fps but max of whatever, I will have v-sync on so it does not matter to me.

Not only will in need to be able to run at this, but also 2560x1600 with all the same requirements.... well a little relaxed because I do understand I am asking a lot... as I am looking use my PC as TV and such so 30" here I come!

From everything I have read, it does seem like the 4870 will be a decent video card. It has been said to be a little faster than the 3870x2 which will be a nice speed increase. Not only that, if it really is for the target price of $199-$250, two in cross fire should do awesome!!!
