I just ordered an ATI 9800 Radeon Pro (Sapphire one; 208$ bulk) and I have a question about the proper installation.
(By the way I made a mistake for using NewEgg this time couse I just saw that Ati.com has now a trade-up program which gets you the retail build-by ATI 9800Pro for 200$, after trading in ANY of your useless old graphic cards as I understand)
Here is a link for anybody who wants to take advantage of this, in my opinion, great offer by the way.
http://www.ati.com/buy/traderebate/tradeup.html

My question though is about the something I read in the "Getting started guide" for Radeon 9800Pro at ATI.com.
http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/radeon9800/radeon9800promanuals.html

At the first page it talks about the installation of AGP drivers for non-Intel Chipset Based Motherboards. Since I am buying the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard for AMD XP Cpu's (nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset) am I right in the assumption that this applies to me, and that I will also have to install that Viirtual GART (AGP) Driver they are talking about?

If that is the case, could anybody please tell me where I can download it or if it is even maybe already provided with the MB installation CD I am soon going to get?

Thanks a lot,
DrAmar

Ps. Also I am buying the bulk version of the Sapphire 9800Pro and I am not sure that i will get any installation manual with it. Is there any place where I can download the specific guide for the Sapphire Radeons, or does the one found on ATI.com site ment to be for all brands.
(I can't seem to find anything on the Sapphire site:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/ )

I'm running a 9800 pro on the same board that your buying with an AMD 2700XP chip, the only thing I did was to download the chipset drivers from the Nvidia site (these are newer) and run them. And I have had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks Agcheavin,

I really hope that works for me to, because I have no clue where I could download those AGP drivers for non-Intel chipset based MB. (I thin they mentioned that they are called Virtual GART drivers or something)

Thanks,

Ps. Is there anybody who did have a problem with installing ATI 9800Pro on the Asus A7N8X-E board, or knows where to download those drivers just in case?

I just installed the same Sapphire 9800 Pro card on my Abit motherboard. I also only needed the nVidia motherboard drivers plus the display driver (I'm using the Omega drivers, by the way, and they work great).

In any case, the nVidia drivers include the AGP GART driver:

Thanks guys,

I now definitely have the answer to my question, and if Asus doesn't work right out of the box, I will make sure to download the Nvidia Chipset driver.

Ps. Should I perhaps download the Nvidia driver anyway, just because it is probably newer then the one I am going to get with my MB?

I also used the Omega drivers about a month ago when I had My 9600XT card, and it kept switching off my Nortons Anti virus ! It would only stay on for about 10 seconds and then turn itself off, when I uninstalled the drivers and went back to the std ones everything worked fine.
