Anyone have any information on the new ati x1700 series?

All I know is that it is a replacement for the x1600.

Anyone know of the possible specs? release date? price?

It was supposed to be released with the R580, but that doesn't seem to be the case obviously.

It's supposed to be 256bit memory, and it's supposed to have more full pipelines, not just 12ALUs and 4 pipes, probably something more linear or perhaps a different ratio 12:8, 16:8, 24:8, 16:12, 24:12? I don't think you'd find anything above 24:12 since it would likely start competing with the X1800series (X1800GTO and XL).

It's a very attractive part for people looking for HTTPCs using SFF type rigs. I personally prefer no extra PSU wires, single slot, cool solutions but that perform well. This may be that kind of solution, otherwise I'll likely be looking at an AIWX1900 for myself similar to Crashman's X1900 and Cleeve's X1800XL, as the right balance for me with some features I don't like but acceptable.

I'm also looking forward to the notebook version by Fall when I'll likley upgrade to dual-core, hopefully better than an MRX800 and with AVIVO.

There's rumours abound about what an X1700 is (just the 256bit memory, just a move to GDDR4, etc), but I've seen no solid evidence, nor any good speculative release dates.

PS, the latest rumour I've heard is that the X1700 will be an 80nm 'transition' part, which could mean lots feature, small die, and potentially good power management (as long as they don't neeed to crank the core to get increased speed).
