I'm putting together parts for my future build, which will be:

Ryzen 9900X3d
Corcair Vengeance DDR5 CL30 64GB Kit
1 TB NVME for the OS
RTX 5080, possibly an AMD 7090XT

I was planning on using this Seasonic PSU (link below) but then I noticed it has an ATX 3.0 variant. Looking into it further it appears it employs the latest 16pin connector(s) for the RTX 5080 and 5090 GPU's. My question is, do I need an ATX 3.0 PSU? They are more expensive than a non ATX 3.0

Also, there's an ATX 3.1 PSU and I could not figure out what the difference is between that and an ATX 3.0 PSU. Hopefully some of you can help me understand the differences and if I can use my first choice of the non ATX 3.0 Seasonic because they make excellent PSU's and it's $175 for the non ATX 3.0 vs $299 for the ATX 3.0 version.

I was planning on using this Seasonic PSU (link below) but then I noticed it has an ATX 3.0 variant.
ALL Seasonic Vertex series PSUs are ATX 3.0.
Announcement: https://seasonic.com/news/sea-sonic-to-launch-new-vertex/

Currently, official specs of Vertex series has gone poof from Seasonic site, where only Vertex ATX 3.1 remains. But Vertex is still ATX 3.0.
In fact, Vertex was the very 1st ATX 3.0 PSU model series that Seasonic launched. Initially, with 10 year warranty, but was upgraded to 12 year warranty, just like PRIME series are.
Announcement: https://seasonic.com/news/vertex-series-warranty-upgraded-to-12-years-2/

Btw, good choice. Build quality wise, Seasonic Vertex is between Seasonic Focus and Seasonic PRIME (PRIME being the best).
(My 3x PCs are also powered by Seasonic. I have 2x PRIME TX-650 units and one Focus PX-550 unit. Full specs with pics in my sig.)

What threw me off was Amazon listed the Vertex then they had another tab for the ATX 3.0
Well, original Vertex doesn't have ATX 3.0 in it's name. Only the successor of it, Vertex ATX 3.1 has "ATX 3.1" in it's name.
But stores can include additional data and include it in the initial name, while in fact, it's feature rather than actual name.

And if you look closely that amazon listing, it actually shows Vertex PX-1200. Hence the price hike. But product image (e.g retail box), doesn't show "ATX 3.0" to be within the PSU's name.

Seasonic PSUs, that do have ATX 3.x in their name, including original counterparts, are:
Seasonic Core GX
Seasonic Core GX ATX 3.1
Seasonic Focus GX
Seasonic Focus GX ATX 3.0
Seasonic Focus GX ATX 3.1
Seasonic Vertex
Seasonic Vertex ATX 3.1
Seasonic Vertex Sakura
Seasonic Vertex Sakura ATX 3.1
Seasonic PRIME PX
Seasonic PRIME PX ATX 3.1
Seasonic PRIME TX
Seasonic PRIME TX ATX 3.1

That should be it, if i recall correctly.

Since ATX 3.x PSUs are relatively new, many PSU brands include the "ATX 3.x" within the PSU name, so people can easily tell a diff if PSU is ATX 2.x or ATX 3.x. But given time, this naming would also disappear from PSU names, once there are no more ATX 2.x PSUs made.
