Audio Driver updated, now I can't use headphones...

I just installed the latest version of my audio drivers (using DriverScanner), and when restarted my computer I can no longer access Playback Devices to configure my headphones. Now everything in my headphones has become distorted, as some sounds are really quiet, while others are incredibly loud. I have fixed the problem of my headphones sounding distorted in the past, so I know it's not my headphones and how to fix it, I just can't access Playback Devices to do it.

I thought about re-installing my audio drivers, but I can't as it says I already have the latest version. Is there anyway how to check what my audio driver is manually so that I can download the latest update of it? I have seen that you can do that by checking something on the motherboard, but I'm not sure what I have to do.

My motherboard is MSI 760GM-P21(FX) (MS-7641) and I am running on Windows 8.1 if that helps. Thanks.

Solution
First check audio panel if it works with speakers or not. Next thing, you might want to check if you are inserting your headphone pin inside the jack properly? If both situations are good and your headphone is getting detected in your pc, follow these steps:
Open Realtek HD Audio Manager and follow the screenshots below;

Yes, my speakers work fine, and I can adjust the sound of them too. If I replace the audio output from the back of my computer (which I use as my speakers for my computer and TV) with my headphones, it sounds fine (although I still can't configure Playback Devices or Recording Devices...). - Edit: Just installing Realtek HD Audio Manager now, and then I'll try what you posted.

didn't you install motherboard drivers using the disk that came with your motherboard? You can find audio drivers from there and install them. If you don't have one then download from http://www.msi.com/product/mb/760GMP21_FX.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win8%2064
And install them. If you have already installed them go to system tray and there you will find realtek audio manager in desktop version windows.

and access it by double clicking on it.

I swear I did install the motherboard drivers using the disk that came with it. When I was installing Realtek I quickly said it was uninstalling, so I must of already had it, but when I searched for it I couldn't see it and I have need used it before. As I went to install it, it said "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code: -0001]". However, when I restarted my computer, it allowed me to access Playback Devices and change the balance back to what it should be. My speakers work too. I have no idea what happened but at least it's fixed 😛 Cheers :)
