Question Audio issue with a brand new laptop ?

Hello,
I would like to ask regarding an audio problem with a a new Lenovo Slim 7i laptop I just got.
It seems to have a noise like a "white noise" (or as if you would adjust the speakers volume too high sometimes), I initially was sure its coming from the fans, but I saw that when I play something on YouTube for instance, and switch to my headphones the noise immediately stops and returning to the laptop speakers it's immediately heard again.

It seems that every time the speakers "kick in" this white noise is heard, even without playing any music, just adjusting the volume would trigger the noise, while if something is heard like a video it is there constantly.

  • I tried to update windows, drivers, bios. no change.
  • I tried to remove and reinstall the audio driver, no change.
  • I tried the windows troubleshooting for audio, same...
  • The noise is not heard at all through my headphones

I tried to change different settings on the audio like remove enhancements/spatial sounds(I believe its the atmos)/there was another setting to change with some different sound rates which also didn't influence this (tried all the options there)...

I made a short video to hear it:

I wonder if this is just a bad speaker that perhaps I can replace myself or is it something else so it is wiser to exchange the laptop ? (since its an international shipment there are some additional costs so I am trying to decide what to do).

Appreciate your insights :)
thanks a lot in advance.

How old is said new laptop? If the issue has been with you since you got the laptop, out of the box, then I'd suggest retruning the laptop.

If you're competent, I'd try and make sure you're on the latest BIOS version, after using the serial number for your laptop to bring up a bespoke support page. Once the BIOS is updated, disassemble the laptop, check and recheck that all cables in the laptop are secure but disconnect the battery, and press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and then try and power up the laptop.

Once into your OS GUI, manually uninstall the audio driver/device from Device Manager, then manually reinstall the latest audio driver from Lenovo's support site, in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your willingness to assist and for the valuable recommendations for the possible next steps.
The laptop is "one week old" and I noticed this issue from day one.
I will take your advise and first will contact the seller to see if there is any issue with returning it and will proceed with the recommendations accordingly.

thanks again for investing the time and help identifying the problem.
