Hi I've got a stubborn audio issue which I cant resolve... My dedicated desktop mic stopped working one day while on discord, I tried reseating the 3.5mm jack but it didn't work at all. I decided to buy a new mic and it kept giving me static noise which led me to reinstall audio drivers that did nothing, I thought it might be the audio ports on my Motherboard that's broken so I decided its time to upgrade my motherboard and have a fresh install of win10 but somehow it still persisted.

The mic is not muted

Solutions I've tried

1. Tested the mic on other devices and it worked
2. Ran diagnostic tools on the mic, also tried setting up my input device where you have to read out a the sentence written on the screen and the mic failed to pick up audio
3. As stated above I reinstalled audio drivers/ uninstalled audio device in device manager and reinstalled it/ installed the generic software etc.
4. I got a external USB sound card and it did the same
5. Tried USB headset with mic but no Bueno... just give static even when the mic itself is muted
6. Went into privacy setting then to the microphone tab and switched microphone access off and then back on
7. I used my phone as a mic over Bluetooth and that kind of worked but the sound quality was very bad.

Old System

WIndows10
i5 4690
24gig ram
Asus B85M-G motherboard
AMD RX5600 XT

New system

Windows10
i7 9700f
16gig ram
Intel b365 motherboard
AMD RX5600 XT

I'm also using standard xiaomi earphones which has build in mic, I don't see how this could be the issue though.

What specific make and model case are you connecting this mic to? And what is the specific make and model of the mic? There have been issues with cases having all in one TRRS jacks and people try to use mics with TRS plugs which won't work. You may just need to use an adapter. But we can't tell until you name the case and mic. Google TRRS vs. TRS for more info.

what do you mean by this. Its a standard mic with a 3.5mm trrs jack, the older mic used trs if im correct ( the jacket with the two rings). The problem also persist over USB headsets so I don't know if this could be the issue

Hi just wanted to let you know you were correct on the issue, I did some further digging into the trrs and trs and the mic I bought that was a known good mic ( cause I tested it on my phone) was actually a four pole instead of a two pole 3.5mm jack.

thanks again
