Hi all,

I have a relatively new ASUS N550JV laptop (a week old). I'm trying to hook it up to my TV via HDMI cable. When I do, the video passes through perfectly fine, however the audio still plays through my laptop speakers.

I've tried multiple times to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers multiple times (it has a GeForce 750M card), but when I go through the install, the custom specification menu does not have the iption to install the standard nVIDIA HD Audio drivers (just the standard Graphic driver, GeForce experience and PhysX options).

When I look through the extracted driver package, it does contain the HD Audio driver information, but the device manager does not show there to be any device to be installed (therefore I cannot install the Audio driver via the inf file).

Any help?

I'm potentially thinking that perhaps the audio pass through cable has come loose within the laptop (joining the MB audio to the GFX card), but this is pure speculation and well beyopnd my normal grasp of what's going on.

Yeah, I checked that. When plugged into the HDMI, the "Sound" panel still shows the laptop Speakers (Realtek High Def etc) as the only available playback device.

I got the same problem with my TV, but I discover I need a SPDIF cable connected to mobo in order to get sound by HDMI connection.
So i gess if you dont have the option at Nvidia control panel( you must have both internal audio and HDMI audio options ) in order to swicth to HDMI audio, then maybe is not connected internally at laptop mobo.

The NVIDIA control panel doesn't feature anyhting to do with the audio settings. Checked the BIOS, couldn't find anything to do with HDMI. Updated BIOS and all relevant drivers as well.

DISAGREE, look well all he NVIDIA control panel options, you must set the default sound output to be HDMI at NVIDIA control panel.

you must have the 2 options Realtek and HDMI audio, so simply set HDMI audio as default sound output, and that is all.
if you dont have the HDMI audio option, if only realtek, then you simply can not get HDMI audio passing through HDMI.

Nope, nothing there from what I can see.

just above the 3D settings there would be more options, so really rare !!

I have the exact same problem, no sound over HDMI on Asus N550jv. I've tried this on several TVs and several HDMI cables, and all those setups do produce sound when my Acer netbook or PS3 is connected to them over HDMI. The laptop came with Windows 8, had the problem then. Installed all audio/video drivers in all possible combinations, to no avail. I have since upgraded the laptop to Windows 7 which has improved many things except the HDMI sound is still dead. I have contacted ASUS several times about this but they were of no help at all.

same problem with you..my laptop is Asus N46JV and the audio still play on my laptop when i plugged HDMI to my TV..really dissapointed..n also i have another question..do u guys can add a bluetooth devices on your asus laptop? i just reinstall the driver and still got no devices detected..sorry OOT..

Yup same problem here. Both HDMI-audio AND bluetooth don't work on my Asus n550jv (Win7pro, SP1).
The computer came with Win8.1, HDMI-audio did not work then. Didn't test Bluetooth before I updated to Win7, so no idea if worked ever.

It's interesting that HDMI-audio doesn't work on your computer too. I hypothesized that the root of my problem was a design flaw in the dual graphics solution (Intel HD graphics on the Core i7 chip and dedicated NVidia 750m graphics) in the N550jv, but I see your N46JV doesn't have a dedicated graphics module.

Very disappointed with Asus. Contacted support over this a couple times, to no avail, utterly useless. Won't buy one again ever.

SOLUTION: DON'T BUY ASUS LAPTOPS, I KNOW I WON'T

Good news everyone! Like the original poster I didn't have audio over HDMI on my Asus N550jv (bios 208, win7pro SP1). I just installed these drivers and now it works perfectly. Very happy!

Intel(R) Graphics Driver: 10.18.10.3907
Intel(R) Display Audio Driver: 6.16.0.3149

I got them through other means but they seem to be available from here as well:

I hope this solves this problem for all of us!!

Same here,
When I first used my computer with TV, the sound was working. After I update to the driver (from asus support site) with V10.18.10.3282.01 and the sound has gone.

Then I downloaded driver from intel's support site 10.18.10.3907. I tried to update. However it wasn't installed and said that "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer."

After that I uninstalled the display driver by setting the "delete the driver software .." option to true. Then windows automatically reinstalled it with version 10.18.10.3308 and now it is working. (of course i was on internet)

Right now my version of Intel(R) Display Audio is 6.16.0.3149. You can update it manually by using downloaded driver zip from intel support site and using Windows' Device Manager - Intel(R) Display Audio - Driver / Update Driver / Browse my computer for driver software

Same problem here with an ASUS N56JN - connected the HDMI cables and video worked but audio did not. I resolved it with updated ASUS drivers.

I went to ASUS' website for my machine, downloaded the new ASUS intel and nvidia drivers, installed them, and now a third option is displayed in the playback devices. That third option, only visible when the HDMI cable is plugged in (and not previously visible prior to the driver update), just has to be activated as default and the audio is then transmitted with video to tv with the HDMI cable.
