Audio output on laptop gone will an external sound card work

I have -2008 hp pavilion laptop. The cd drive is broken and the audio output says it isn't installed, I've tried everything to restore it. Could I buy an external USB sound drive and an external DVD drive to download and burn my home movies from my camcorder to DVDs?

All of the above can be achieved. Before you go ahead and buy a USB sound card, what model laptop is it? The audio output should be able to be resolved by downloading the correct drivers for the laptop.

Go ahead and buy the external DVD drive. It'll do what you need it to.
