Audio pauses for a second, then starts again

I am using a Windows 10 build with an ssd OS drive with plenty of space, CPU utilization is low, memory usage is around 60% max. I am using a USB Steinberg UR12 audio interface.

My issue is that sometimes when I do something like open another window, close a tab, or just use the Windows interface the audio will hang for a second or two and then start again. Sometimes it seems to do it just randomly. I have not had any issues with this before, it has started in the past 2-3 days.

Any thoughts on how to go about troubleshooting this? I'm stumped right now.

Are you using a microphone and headphones with your steinberg? If so, (Since the most important thing here is audio) try plugging out the audio interface, and plugging in your headphones directly into your front-panel audio connectors. If this works, and you get consistant audio with no interruption, then your audio interface is broken.

I currently only use my headphones with it as they are pretty large cans, adds some oomph and clarity. Also makes working with my DAW easier.

Audio had been cutting out, even when using the system audio jack. Seems to be better now. Going to test it for a few days to be sure.
