AUREAL VORTEX2 AU8830 SUPERQUAD DIGITAL

Hi

i bought a AUREAL VORTEX2 AU8830 SUPERQUAD DIGITAL A3D PCI AUDIO CARD (OEM) Detail Specs $29.00. Thinking it was a great deal! 29 bucks for a super awsome sound card. I go and i buy that plus an optical mouse at mwave. and then later me being stupid do i read these post about this sound card and the company. Now what is chapter 7? isn't that reorganization or something? Can anyone tell me anything GOOD about this sound card? so i'll feel more confident! lol! Anyone experience zero problems? i downloaded the latest drivers from http://www.videologic.com/Software/SV2Win9xDriverNotes.htm

it's version 2048, does anyone have anything later then that!? I want the latest drivers possible. Also, i read about a dual sound card setup. Could i run the AWE64 and the Aureal sound card at the same time?

The way i look at it is that i'm out 29 bucks ya know?
If it doesn't work i'll just buy the sound blaster live! x-gamer 5.1

I bought the Microsoft Optical ps2/usb mouse. i guess it glows red on the bottem! so cool... plus 5 programmable buttons! I also bought the plextor cd-rewriter 12x10x32x can't wait to get that. lol, i'm more excited about my mouse then the sound card!

tell me something good some of you may have experienced with this card!?

Thanks!

Your card is fine if it's in an intel based system. If you use AMD, like me, I suggest selling that card and buying something else, preferably a Philips Acoustic/Seismic Edge. I hear the Philips cards are very nice on AMD systems. The aureal card doesn't like AMD-based chipsets. The problem has to do with how the card sends data through the motherboard's northbridge, resulting in a crash after a while (I think that's what it was...not quite sure). I'm sure that aureal would have fixed this problem, but since $ound Bla$ter bought them out, there will never be any more A3D drivers.😛 You cannot get 100% stability using an aureal card on an AMD system, although there's probably one or two exceptions out there somewhere.

hey,

are you sure because with the latest updated drivers these are the fixes it made.

Added A3Dverb reverb engine (optimized for 3DNow!).
Added A3D 3.0 support.
Added initial EAX 1.0 support.
Added initial I3DL2 support.
Fixed A3D Property Set issues.
Fixed issue of MIDI not working properly when A3D was in use.
Improved SoundFont (SF2) support.
Modified 3D rendering slightly to reduce muffled sounds in center of head

notice it says "optimized for 3dnow!" 3dnow is AMD based...
but ya, i'll try and sell it and get the sound blaster live x-gamer 5.1 instead if it doesn't work. my friend has this card and told me about it. thats why i got it. he says it works great. he has an AMD system

Thanks!

I've got the Plextor burner and optical mouse right now. They are both good products. Just make sure that after installing the burner you tell windows so run it in dma mode. Mine defaulted to pio mode in win2k and I got my moneys work of BURN-Proof right away. After telling win2k to use dma mode for the drive it ran great. Cd's in 6 minutes!!!

I dont have DMA enabled in ME and it runs great as well, hmmm 🙁 Have 73 mins of MP3 converted and burned as CD in 18 mins... hehe

18 mins??? I drag 80min worth of mp3's into Nero's song list window and have a CD in 6 min!! How much of the 18 min. is spent decoding the mp3's? Not sure how much cpu power is required to decode and burn at 12x but my 1 gig tbird can handle it while I use the computer for other task. 18 min.?...are you sure your burner is burning at 12x? Before dma it would take me much longer as the cache would run out, refill, then burn 2megs,run out...you get the idea.

That was a joke right?

Never heard anything like that as far as 12x writing 700 megs in 6 minutes. I will count it as a joke for now.
By the way, I put it on 4x, so decoding will go smoooooth as baby's butt, even I have 900mhz (not 1gig though).
Never turned DMA on cos it runs full speed fine anyway. I have 8x though (I figure you have 12x as you talk from "above")... hehe

Ehh, no joke. I have a Plexwriter 12/10/32 and it takes me 6.5 minutes to burn a full CD, audio or data. That's how fast 12X burners are supposed to go....

Yes, I burn CD's in 8 minutes on my 8x CRRW! BTW I have an SCSI version-it os so sweet! I can play intense 3D games on my sytem and burn a cd at the same time!
