Award BIOS Update not recognized

I have a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7NNXP) and just updated the Award
BIOS from F17 to F20 version. Microsoft System Information 7.0 still
shows the BIOS version to be F17. The Gigabyte DMI mainboard BIOS tool
also shows the old version while the program I used to flash with and
the BIOS itself report the new version.
How do I make Windows update it's system information?

(WindowsXP SP2 operating system with all available updates)

The "bad" info is probably coming from the
Registry, where XP read the BIOS version
*once* during install, plugged it into a Reg key,
and never updates it again.

Search the Registry for the BIOS version string
and hand edit it to the correct one.

Backup first. I have no idea what else could
happen when you do this.

FWIW-it does not make any difference to system
operation-it's purely cosmetic-you might want to
consider just not worrying about it.

That's not necessarily true.

I have an ABIT IC7-MAX3 and the BIOS has been updated four times since I
bought it and MSINFO reads the last flash update correctly. (And I did not
manually change the registry.)

Install/update the chipset drivers. This may be required so that the XP
cann correctly access the BIOS.

I have the latest chipset drivers. Who knows exactly what the problem
is, it could be any number of things. But, like V Green said, its
probably purely cosmetic. I might try a few things like clearing DMI
pool data from BIOS rather than from Windows or finding the BIOS
version value in the registry...

It has been reported several times recently that gigabyte has been
forgetting to update the part of the bios that reports this information to
the operating system and so the BIOS version is being misreported by several
utilities commonly used to view this information.

Don't fret about it. If it shows the correct bios version when the system
boots, then you know you are on the right version.

The trouble is that the version information is stored in and reported from
more than one place in the BIOS. GB has just been a tad slack in updating
the version in all these places recently.
