I built a thunderbird 900 w/AZ11 mobo. It freezes about 2 times a day on me. Usually during SETI (100% load). I know its probably a heat issue but I'm amazed how it could be. I have an alpha PAL w/denki fan and arctic silver thermal paste. My power supply is mounted on the top and I have a huge case fan in its place blowing out. I also have a fan in the front blowing in. And a 6x3 heat vent on the side right over the cpu. Whats the deal? It can freeze after 10 minutes or 5 hours. Its not the op sys/video/sound or HD.
Also I read the Alpha PAL cools better blowing down in a case with good airflow any thoughts on that?

How do you know its not the os/video/sound?

Its probably the board itself. FIC has crappy support and never fixes any of the problems their boards have.
How often do they put out a new bios to correct a problem?

Yeah it could be the board. I bought the FIC as a combo for the price break it was about 240.00. I ruled out the other items because I was able to move the board and proc to another machine that had none of the same cards/OS/HD etc. as the first (Same Problem). My friends 800 fic combo locks up/ freezes too. He has a global win sink.

They actually put out a lot of bios updates Ive got the latest (VDA44). But it doesn't report to help any stability issues above VDA42 which I had.

Have you loaded the VIA drivers for the board. If you have installed newer video drivers, a new video card, etc... you may need to re-install the drivers to get stability. If it was a cooling issue than I would imagine that it would always lock up in SETI within 30 minutes, not 5 hours, unless you are teetering right on the edge of the temp threshold. Have you tried a fresh install of Windows with only the drivers installed for the hardware in your computer and run SETI to see if you have the same results. Somewhere along the line a program or system corruption may occured reducing stability as well.

Thanks for the post. This is a fresh install with little else loaded. But you could be right about the VIA drivers I have re-applied the patch for the 4in1 drivers (since I did put in a voodoo5) I will post if that helped. When I came home today the box was frozen without seti running it took 5.2 hours. I'm dismissing the heat issue all together. I've got this thing pretty cool (I had planned to O/C thats why I was testing the stability with SETI) and I have a 5 inch fan for exhaust. I'm still looking for magic answers but the via drivers is a very good call.

VICTORY is mine. Now to find something else to muck-up. I loaded the newly released patch and ran seti for 12 hours. That should do it. If anyone knows about that fan question let me know. (the AZ!! doesnt have a therm so I can't test the fan thing)
