backing up of back up

I know there are drives that will automatically backup your current hard drive (e.g. western digital has an external drive that backs up your current drive) automatically.

so is it possible to set up a series of backup drives that will backup a drive? like a chain of them?

So you have your internal HD which is being backed up by one external HD (1st drive), and another external HD (2nd drive) would back up the 1st and if possible another external HD (3rd drive) to back up the 2nd drive.

You can use 2 (or more) identical disks to make RAID1 which would automatically make both drives as backup of each other at same time.
