I was CPU shopping last May seeking advice from this board whether to get a 2400+ or a Barton 2500+. I ended up getting the 2400+ for fear that I could not use the Barton or get high enough multiplier settings to make it to 2.0 GHz. But I am currently building another computer for my father-in-law, so that game me a chance to see if I could get a Barton working in my computer.

The CPU posted and works great. It is not recognized, but it reads the 512 cache. 12.5 was the highest multiplier in the bios, so I had to use a wire mod to get 16.5 multiplier, but I am running my Barton at 2200 MHz... and very stable. I Ran 3DMark03 5 times at stock voltage, but I still didn't trust it, so I raised VCore to 1.675... but my readings say 1.66. That is the exact VCore and speed I was running my 2400+ at. I think I will keep it and use the 2400+ to build a new computer with for my father-in-law. I wish I had taken the chance last May.

BTW, I have not seen my temp go above 42C... maybe I should shoot for 2400...

Just got my highest score yet in 3DMark03... 5201!

Captain Obvious asks does that soyo KT333 support 166fsb or not?

Not. There is no 1/5 divider. [edited] The ram can run at 166. It does support increasing the fsb way up there. However, my RAID and other pci devices do not like anything above 33.3. I had my fsb set to 135 for a while, but then I got error message upon boot up about my RAID. I dropped it to 134, and had it there for a few months, but then playing an online game it crashed my computer several times before I figured out dropping it back to 133 fixxed the freezing problem. BTW, what is a cheap modem that is OK overclocked.

what heatsink do you have? I have a barton 2600+ @ 1.92 ghz and it runs at about 36-39* C with a vantec aeroflow cooler

I am using an SK7 with a medium strength 80mm fan. Case airflow is good, with a 120mm fan and an 80mm fan blowing in at the side, 1 80 in from the front, and 1 80 out from the rear.

44c is what I think load is at the moment, with 39c or so at idle, yet my room was on the warm side last night. Normally it is cooler in there.

Regardless, I think I will use a 17 multiplier next time I open my case up. It is a pain to use change the wire in cpu socket mod. But I need to clean dust out of my SK7, anyway. I would like to get my fsb at least back up to 135, but I need a new modem for that.
