battlefield 3 multiplayer with 7850 low fps

my new upgraded pc AMD athlon x4 740
4GB ram
120gb ssd
60gb ssd (for BF3)
sapphire 7850 1gb OC
1080 TV
I get really low frames around 17/25fps minimum on any quality. even if i set resolution to 768p

average is around "45" but with all the action i get to feel the 17fps more often.

is this normal for this video card? videos and reviews say otherwise. So i don't know what to do to fix this. Tom's cpu article suggest the 750K.... so i doubt my x4 740 would hold back this card and if so, not by much. it's a mid range card and low end but recent cpu. Unlike my previous one ( athlon x3 425)

If you change the graphics settings but still get the same FPS, it means that the problem is your CPU. You might want to buy an intel i5 for battlefield multiplayer. As far as I know, the 7850 is very capable of running BF3.

bf3 is very cpu intensive durring multiplayer. meaning your old bulldozer cored athlon II x4 740 is probably the problem. that cpu is about 15% slower per core then the piledriver cored athlon II x4 750

Really? I thought trinity was part of the new family and not bulldozer. I had just last week a athlon x3 425 (2009). With a 6850. Got similar results. So I'm just a bit confused that a newer although cheap cpu and better card can't do better. Oh, I also did install the 7850 while I had that old hardware. And again, similar results as now. Is there any other test I can run to see what the issue is?

Trust me, if I had the money I would have gone higher up on cpu and card. I built this under 200 $ cpu-motherboars-ram. Thanks for taking time to answer tho.

You don't have to buy a new card, just buy a new CPU and it would do the job. I would suggest an i5. Goodluck!

P.S. Did you delete the 6850 drivers before you installed the 7850? If you did, then ignore this.

The 740 is piledriver but its still a budget CPU, you should try overclocking it, though its multiplier is locked you can still overclock on the frequency.

This is my second built and with a low budget. So, will I really see that big of a gain with any cpu upgrade? Maybe the athlon x4 750k ? The intel are way out of reach for me. This is a luxury I'm giving myself with bills to pay. So a cpu (not motherboard) upgrade would be cheaper than a new card. I do hope to play battlefield 4 at 1080 or 720 in a mix of medium/low with decent frames. As long as I can play it. Girlfriend also take some of a guy's monthly free budget lol

You will not see any difference with a new CPU that can go in that board that you can't get from a free overclock but keep an eye on your temps if you only have the stock cooler.

You mentioned overclocking over frequency. How do I do that. Usually for the card I use the amd software. I just slide the dials. My little motherboard MSI has enabled a auto OC option. How do I know when the cpu "turbo" is working and normal overclocking (I guess, how can I tell them apart)?

I had a rana athlon x3 2.7 and 6850, with this athlon x4 740 and 7850 I get similar performance(multiplayer). I'm just having trouble understanding that such newer hardware perform similar to old. And both cpu's were/are the budget of their time. And both cpu's had a run with the 7850. Puzzles my mind. Thanks for all your suggestions guys.

Also, I checked that website canyourunit ?? And unlike my precious built, this time I get the bar to go over the recommended line and basically fill the entire thing green. With my previous built I barely made it 1/4 between the minimum and recommended lines. That's why I am even more puzzled. I've been playing battlefield 3 since released.

The basics of overclocking by frequency on both chips in the bios is, lower the memory multiplier 1 notch and then gradually raise the frequency which brings the memory speed back up along with the CPU speed and increase the CPU voltage as needed for stability and after each increase stability test while keeping an eye on the temps. The Athlon x 3 may also be able to unlock to 4 cores and a small chance of unlocking L3 cache by enabling ACC in the bios. Beyond this read some guides and ask specific questions.

How do i check if it is stable? What would be a bad temperature max limit? i'll try and research also.

You check if its stable using Prime 95 or Intel burn test (both free) run them for 5 mins to check each time you up the speed and for a few hours when you reach what you want to stick with, if they don't crash its stable. Use HWMonitor to check you temps 74C is the absolute max so try to stay below 70C or even better 65C the max CPU voltage you can use safely is 1.5V or 1.55V with extreme cooling if you have the stock cooler try to stay under 1.4V but its really down to what temps you get.
