BB ATI 9800pro

Got a BB ATI 9800pro coming tomorrow. What overclocks should I expect? Its R350 core so should do well. I'll see how it goes stock then maybe stick a bigger heatsink on later if its worth it.

Should at least get XT speeds with that core. Maybe more with a better HSF. You could probably do up to 440-450 with the stock cooler but that would be dangerous.

Ive been after a BB ati 9800pro for months. A UK store has a week deal for £135 inc del ($200) so I bit the bullet and got one.

Heh yeah I am. Got bored with 384/348 clocks for 24/7 use and i sold the 9700p for almost as much as im paying for the 9800pro so its a good deal. Especially if it clocks well.....

"Its R350 core so should do well." This statement fundamentally does not make sense.
There are only 2 cores for a 9800 Pro... r350 and r360. The r360 is the better overclocker (in general), so to name the lesser core and relate it to overclocking well, fundamentally does not make sense.
Did you mean to say r360?
Either way, it'll probly overclock well, XT speeds at least, probably more. Good luck! And when you get your card, flash it to XT!!! Read my BIOS flashing guide and dload my image file! It will rock your world!

Well the core artifacts in the water in 3dmark 03 above 389mhz so thats obviously voltage limited. The memory is at 360 though and still going higher. Think I may try an XT bios to see if the core will go higher.

No wonder it artifacts its an R360 core, probably voltage limited so will definatly flash to XT!

i have an r360 core (just installed vga sinlencer) but ur guide dosnt have good instructions to flash it using a CD.

Add a VGA silencer = extra 500 marks +
NF3 250 mobo (2.4ghz with agp lock) =extra 1000+ 3dmarks

Thats about 23,000 when my rig is complete. Maybe more....

I think you misunderstood the part about using a CD to do the flash. The image file that I linked to in the thread, that you can download off my personal webspace, IS A DOS BOOT CD! YOU DONT NEED ANYTHING MORE THAN THAT IMAGE FILE!

Yeah that was pretty cool of you, definitely an awesome offer, I was even surprised at the time.

I have the Fried R9500PRO here, just waiting for bench time in the Technology and operations department at work to try and remove the core to make a paperwieght or keychain out of. Still haven't decided which. Maybe a new kind of CASE badge for my next AMD64 rig.


Glad to see you finally got that upgrade you wanted. Took a while though.

Now only if MY upgrades would get here.


P.S. , <font color=red><b>GW</b></font color=red>, I will send you a few pics, like right now) of the R9500P with the HSF off (came off REAL easy [too easy IMO, Scary!]), and a close up of the BGA and R300 core, not that you've never seen them or anything.

Ordered a VGA silencer so should come tuesday. Its heat holding me back now coz on a fresh boot 3dmark 03 runs fine @ 403core but after a while it artifacts @ 396. I should be able to run @ XT speeds when the cooler arrives and then it will fly.........

And yeah you could say my score (21337) is 2 1337 4 j00! =)
