I think the next 24 months are going to be really telling. If I'm right the normal upgrade cycle and PC demand in general that would have naturally happened over the next 2-3 years, for a huge chunk of people, was pulled forward into 2020 and 2021.

That would mean a big drop off in demand in GPU, client, and potentially mobile compute, starting about now.
However at the same time there were lots of people like me who planned to upgrade last two years and couldn't due to lack of availability or high prices. Those people will upgrade now so demand can stay same.

Perhaps, I doubt it though.

I also cheated, I predicted something that's already happening, I'm just adding that this will greatly affect GPU sales as well :

Shipments of desktop PC CPUs fell by more than 30 percent during the first quarter of 2022, according to Mercury Research. That’s the largest drop in desktop CPU sales in history.

i am one of those, looking to upgrade the Strix 1060 i am still running :) at 1080p its fine, bump that up to 2k, and not so much, still playable, but barely at max eye candy

Perhaps, I doubt it though.

i know 2-3 people that have been wanting to upgrade for about a year now,( one i STILL on a 2600K i think it is ) but have had to wait, due to what DRagor said, high prices, or no stock.

also on a 2600k - actually using it right now. 2600k x 1050ti combo is still good for the games here in the house.
fell victim to the urge of buying a faster cpu, and put together a 10600k pc even though I did not need it yet. Since it's already built, might as well buy a GPU for it (lol). This news of lowered prices is a comfort to hear.. two days from now, will be checking out stores at the nearby mall to see if prices of RTX series has dropped. Last time I checked which was two months ago, an RTX 2060 is still approximately 500 USD if you convert my country currency.

if he on a 2600k, he been waiting longer than a year to upgrade. MUCH longer, lol
he was actually looking to upgrade over the last 1.5 years or so, but because of the prices and no stock, he was forced to wait longer. he MIGHT upgrade over the next couple of months, but chances are, will just wait for Zen 4 and radeon 7000.

just got home from the mall. Glad at the prices that I saw..

Colorful RTX 2060 is 20900 pesos = 385 usd
Asus RTX 3050 is 18000 pesos = 331 usd

asked the store why the 3050 is cheaper than the 2060. They said the 2060 is better for gaming.
planning to buy the 2060 the next time I go to mall. Have saved enough money now.

today, only bought another 8gb Kingston ddr4 stick, to upgrade the ram of new pc to a total 16gb.
next time, if it's still there, I could finally get hands on the longed for RTX 2060. :)

just over a week ago, I went to the mall and indeed prices are starting to be lower. I checked out most of the stores in the floor of the mall where gpu are sold, and at least two stores have dropped price.

and another thing, it's a pleasant sight to see store shelves now populated with plenty of 30 series and 16 series cards. During the gpu crisis, the only ones they have on display are a GT 1030, GT 730, and a few heavily overpriced 1660 super.

just to give an idea of how things have relaxed here... during the GPU crisis, a 1660 super is priced at approximately 570 USD. Today, plenty of RTX 3050 (card similar in strength to a 1660 super) is only priced at 320 USD. Still above msrp, but it's a relief to see prices going down.
