Today i bought a BENQ XL2411Z 144HZ monitor, however when i plug it in and try to change it to 144hz in the screen resolution page, the max it will go is 60hz. I'm using a dual link DVI D cable (provided with the monitor) to connect to my graphics card (Radeon HD 6870). Is it because im plugging it into a dual link DVI I slot?

I've been searching around for hours trying to look for a solution and people have been saying most Radeon cards only have one slot that supports dual link DVI. I tried switching slots however, when i try the other slot, my monitor says that its not detecting any signal..

Could it also be because the driver's aren't correctly installed? I inserted the CD provided with the monitor and went to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > BenQ XL2411Z > Hardware > Properties > Driver > Update Driver... and selected XL2411Z in the drivers folder in the CD. However when i go to Control Panel > Windows Update > View update history. I don't see the anything related to BENQ installed..

Also when i open up catalyst control center, it says that the maximum reported refresh rate my monitor has is 120Hz.

Will i have to buy a display port cable? If so which one because my graphics card only has 2 mini display port slots, and also my monitor only supports HDMI, VGA, and DVI

EDIT: Btw when i try switching ports and restarting my computer, my BENQ monitor displays the startup screen (The screen of your motherboard manufacture), and also the "windows is starting up" screen. Once i get to the screen where i have to enter my password, my monitor says "No signal is detected"

So i've came to the conclusion that i can't use 144hz due to the fact that the Radeon 6870 only has one DVI Dual Link port (which is the top one), and the bottom port is only a single link even though they both look the same. However having my monitor plugged into the top port, and having my computer restart. My monitor only displays the start up screens and once its time to enter my password, it says "No signal is detected"

Finally, solved the issue. So i kept the monitor plugged into the top port of my graphics card (which supports dual link dvi) and then i had a 2nd monitor plugged in to hdmi. When i went into screen resolution settings, it was telling me that it was detecting 3 monitors (However for my card you can only have 2 monitors running at a time). I went to Catalyst Control and disabled one of the monitors and my BENQ XL2411Z came alive!

Did you get it to run at 144hz? If not, you may want to try this.
Go into Catalyst, open up the desktop resolution tab, and look for a button that says Custom resolution.
There you can enter your own "custom" refresh rate, and then it should run at 144hz.
When this happens the screen will turn black for a second or so and then bring the desktop back up. IF that doesn't work and the screen stays black, I recommend not touching anything else. There will be a 15 second countdown that, when it runs out, should return back to your original resolution settings..
