Howdy,
I'm looking for an m.2 ssd to use as a boot drive. And just as a boot drive. So around 120gb is fine.

I was just wondering which brand or which ssd would be the best for the price?
I've seen some gigabyte, Intel & wd Green drives that are cheap, but which one do you folks think is the best?

Solution
Can you elaborate? Because Windows doesn't take up 120gb afaik 🤔
Even if you choose to install on a secondary drive, things get installed onto the C: drive. Some files have to be in the Windows directories and you can't controll those installs. Windows updates take gigabytes. A 120GB disk has about 110GB out of the box.
Spend the extra few $$$ and get a 250GB and don't worry about filling your C:

At "120GB", none.

None of the better manufacturers make them that small anymore.
And "just as a boot drive " never works out that way.

WD Green? No, not in any size, for any use.

"M.2" ?
Are you thinking NVMe or SATA?
M.2 is simply the form gfactor.

What motherboard is this going on?

Asus TUF X570

And why wouldn't it work out as just a boot drive, got plenty of other storage going it..

Just speaking from years of experience.

With a 120GB SSD, you only have around 80GB to work with. You need to leave space free for TRIM to work.
Game saves, log files, temp files, Windows Updates, junk you forgot you downloaded, etc, etc...

A 120GB drive will fill up far faster than you think.

Can it be made to work? Sure.
But you'll be spending far too much time in managing that space.

Given the non-availability of "120GB" drives from good manufacturers, and the current price structure...there is zero reason to look for one.

For what use?

Samsung
Crucial
Intel 660p

Sata I think.
Asus tuf x570-plus gaming motherboard.
I just wanted a place to put my windows files and use the other ssd I have for games and such. Maybe it's just unnecessary.
