Ok listen i have a fan that does 100cfm and is 1db @ 20 meters....does that make sense to any of you? You all fail to realize that noise is measured as decibels per meter, so saying that my fan has a 100 cfm and makes a 19decible noise does not tell you anything at All........Any RESPECTABLE company will make accurate measurements of their fans, 90 cfm and 19db with a 120mm fan is almost blasphemy. I own so many fans that i can be called a fan expert (antec, coolermaster, DELTA, sunon, Comair, SilenX, and many more). i bought silenX fans that claimed a lot of crap and couldnt prove it. Remember any fan can be silent if it is measured at a gazillion meters away from the sound source.......sorry didnt mean to go off at you but do some research and dont go for bogus claims!!.....yateloon is very good btw, they are still 28+db fans @ 1 meter (slow version)...GL

Oh one more thing if you are running 3 fans creating same amount of noise, they will be in phase which will make then create more noise, so if you have one fan rated @ 20db/meter and you put three of those, then your total noise will be 20+3+3 = 26db/meter..sorry physics rules over all companies and their hypes... :pt1cable:

^yes, if you read above we were already discussing the distance and sound thing,

as for the yateloon fans being good buys, I never said it was a bad fan, (great for the price actually) but just for similar airflow it is louder.

As for any fan being silent from far away, this is true.

Coolermaster is a reliable company so there fan measurements like you said should be accurate, As for the decibals not telling you anything I have to disagree, somewhat, these reliable companies as you said will probably all measure the noise of the fan from similar distances which is probably the average distance between you and your computer, and from all the fans I've had from different companies it seems somewhat like that (granted there are differences) my 23dba rosewill fans sound a tad louder than my 19dba coolermasters. Makes sense.

for 19dba and 90 cfm being outrageous how is it
the cfm/dba ratio is 4.7
the 14dba and 74 cfm silenx fan gave a ratio of 5.3 (even better)
and the lower yateloons have similiar ratios and many of the slipstream fans have similiar ratios.

I don't really see what your point is.

Hi, firstly i would like to inform you that cfm is cubic feet per minute, not per meter, so your calculation of 90/19 or 74/14 does not tell me anything except give me a ratio, if you came up with a time function (a differential equation of air flow, sound, and volts that would give me some real info). Secondly i am sure the silenx fans can do 19db but not at their rated cfm, i just test mine again to be sure, i have a noise generator that will create 19 db (up to 80db) and the silenx fan is still louder. Also you might want to look at this about fan rating......look at slienx cfm and noise you will see what i mean...

this guy did an extensive test......the silenx does provide the rated cfm but look at their decibles. :wahoo:

oh yeah, i am just saying there are many fans out there that will claim to do amazing cfm/db and cost a gazillion bucks but fail to give satisfiable results.

^Yep manufacterors (?) and their false advertising, you got to love it.

and all I was trying to give you was ratio, just to compare the cfm/dba of fans

And I'll make a note to myself, silenx fans are louder than specified. thanks

PS: Did you really think I would do more calculus (though I like math) on top of my regular calc class, which I just started so don't really know any calc yet.

i would say that the silenx fan is quiet but when my front grill is off. And wen the fan runs on full it truly is quiet, i just listen to see if its comfortable to sit next to, but if i had to buy a fan again i would buy the enermax as i got one recently its rated 54cfm at 14dba or so and its 20bucks and quiet at full. Maybe what i realized is the silenx fans dont make that buzzing or humming or whatever you wanna call it noise when the fan is running full speed.

but as u guys said they are overratted a bit but they push a good amount of air and low noise. i will see how loud is 1 as i have 2 of them running.

Hi, yes it is usually the pitch you are refereing to, also the fan bearings make a huge difference how loud oe silent the fan is..generally magnetic bearing > ball bearing > sleeve bearing. You can also make a bearing out of magnetic field which in theory will have no metal to metal contact, thus being quite....magnetic fields act like vectors and follow the right / left hand rule.

SilentX fans suck. They exaggerate the specs a ton.

San Ace 1011s are pretty awesome, but hard to find.

Scythe GT 1850/1450's are also nice.

Zalman ZM-F3's and Petras Yates are great for the price, but you can't mount them horizontally.

Hey just wanted to let you guys know, that the coolermaster fan i reccomended
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835103061

pushes less air than stated. This is actually neweggs fault not coolermaster, since the CFM on the packaging is right, stating 70cfm, neweggg specs 90cfm.

That was partially the cause of some discussion here. And though the dba ratings are the same on the package and at newegg, i have to say it's actually a little louder than 19 by my personal use. (also gets a lot louder if there is something like a grill or a air blockage near it, which is understandable, but it gets a lot louder)

It looks good, and seems like it might do the work better for my TRUE 😀

well newegg just informed that 70fcm and 19dba is stock settings (whatever that means) and to get up to 90cfm you have to use a fan controller, and then it's at 23dba. But the thing is I can't tell a difference when it's plugged into a fan controller on max, the psu, or a mobo header.

I'm thinking I might try these:

70 cfm at 18 dba for $7 bucks.. and blades are removable for cleaning

should definitely look these babies up, got em=love em
