Best Air Coolers??

Ok.... so now I am considering the thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. What is the best fan... err.... what fan did they use in the test where it beat out the Tuniq Tower 120?

I've been looking about for a new CPU heatsink / fan myself recently. The Extreme definitely looks like the best option (when the damn thing comes out!).

Here's a link to the anandtech review:

However, there is a new fan out that you could couple with the Extreme:

Is it smart to have copper and aluminum? Wont that cause it to... do... that... thing where the... yeah... Or is it better to have a solid copper or solid aluminum?

I looked at that Noctua NH-U12F and it looks just like the top 1 of the site that i had linked to this. Dose copper and aluminum cool better?

I don't think galvanic corrosion is a problem in this particular application. Moisture needs to be present for gavanic corrosion to take place, and the inside of a warm PC case is not an environment where you will find moisture. It also requires atmosphere. So, if you fully encapsulate a piece of copper in aluminum, galvanic corrosion can't take place.

If you look at the under-side of a stock Intel HSF, you'll note that the copper plug is surrounded on all sides with the exception of where it comes in contact with the IHS. The only exposed portion of the copper is smaller than the size of the IHS and will be completely covered by thermal paste. No atmosphere, no moisture, no galvanic corrosion.

Ok good, I couldn't remember that name earlier (about the two metal corroding). So.. we have come to the temporary conclusion that there are two fans to look at. One is the Scythe S-Flex and the other is the SilenX IXTREMA 120.

Right....

The targeted release date is 4/24/2007 and so far i can only pre-order it frozencpu.com for $64.95. Will this be in bulk because that is the day I am most likely buying my system (regardless of the Intel price cuts or not, I am loosing my desktop to my brother for his birthday and I want my new one before I give him my old one).

So I am tempted to just pay the price and get this pre-ordered. You have shown me that the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is better then the Tuniq Tower and we are now looking at two good fans.

I have one last simple request, STOP CHANGING MY MIND ON WHAT HEATSINK I WANT!!!! lol... This is the one I am getting link it or not, just help me pick the fan.

If you tell me I will buy the heatsink today.

I saw someone mention this cooler on the 1st page. After two days of digging through reviews this looks like the best thing out there as far as I can tell. I like the fact that it's open around the base so air can move around the NB and the rest of the area near the socket.

I had planned on getting scythe ninja or thermalright, but this one seems to be just as good with the added benefit of blowing more air around the board. Might change out the stock fan for a scythe flex

I found one on coolerguys.com (kind of nervous about using a site I've never heard of - anybody used them before?

I can keep my 4200 x2 stable at 2.5+, but can't seem to get it over that. Hoping something better than the stock HSF will help.

Also looking for a VGA cooler for an x1800GTO2 - anybody using the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2? I've seen some sites that recommend it and some that like the Zalman VF900 - not really sure which way to go here.

1GB OCZ 6400
Sapphire x1800GTO2
Thermaltake 500W PSU
CoolerMaster Centurian case
2x120mm, 2 x 80 mm case fans

I found a site selling it, and they'll sleeve it too for free,

I'm surprised you aren’t taking a look at the Noctua NH-U12F. It fits all of your requirements, namely, it’s not obnoxiously large, it’s SILENT, and cools just as well as the 120. Adding to the fact it’s easy to mount, you won’t have to worry about cracking your mobo if you go to a lan, and is renown to be easy to install, it also oozes of quality, each fin is soldered on, as opposed to glued like the tuniq and others. I think you should take a good strong look at the Noctua, I firmly believe this cooler will more than satisfy all of your wants.

Haha, I sound like I work for them 😛 (I don't) But seriously, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t happy with their purchase.

Thermalright Rocks

Also the nickle plating is nice anti- corrosive

besides how long has Tuniq been making coolers compared to thermalright and there is somthing about having the fan sandwitched in there that makes it louder

Also on the new Thermalright Ultra-E Extreme Dont forget the two bolt through kits so you dont put so much presure on the cpu and mobo

the new one comes with both bolt through kits an2 and lga775

Thermalright is simply the best

And what about there newest ifx-14 cpu cooler with 140mm fans forget water cooling now

I've read a few good things about the Enzotech Ultra-X. Anyone have any experience with it?

i have it, i Oc'ed my X2 3800 to 2.6Mhz no problems, and not really that loud, it also has a fan speed controller. It is small enough, and has a sexy black top. it is a great deal, also come with Artic sliver 5. 😀 😀 😀

And, I OC'ed my X2 3600+ to 2.8 Ghz no problems either, and I did it with a $14 masscool HSF and AS5.. Idle temps are 28-30 degrees, and fully Loaded Orthos primes on both cores peak out at 50 degrees C! 😀

I am not worried about the weight, this computer is not designed to move. Latter this year is when I design my shuttle computer  .

*edit* I have also seen that when you look at the ULTRA HIGH END, there is no real difference between the top coolers other then 1 or 2 degrees Celsius. I am not a giant OCer so that wont matter to me. Just that it will perform well and look amazing in the case.

so does anybody know what kinda fans to use with the Ultra when it comes out tomorrow? I'd rather keep it nice and cool and have some noise, but nothing annoying, anybody have any suggestions on which 2 fans to get? [Atleast I think you use 2 fans with the ultra, i think someone said a 120 and an 80 or something>]

Here is a link with a huge HSF roundup:

You'll find all the usual suspects there. This is a very comprehensive list which takes into consideration cooling peformance and noise.

To the OP, the two water cooling solutions you state there are definitely low end. You'll find that a high end air cooler will perform on par or better than either of those two water cooling kits. You also have the added benefit of easier installation/removal and no risk of leaks. The only reason to go water in my opinion is to get the extra cooling for overclocking (silence can be had with good air cooling), but with those two I'm sure you'd feel disappointed. The best setups don't usually come in kits.

There were two that were recommended a little bit ago.

Seems the Thermalright 120 and 120 extreme are just impossible to find atm.

I need a cooler my pc parts come in this week!

Has anyone used jab-tech.com

Trusted company?

Think I may just go with the Noctua NH-U12F comparing it to the Thermalright 120, will the Noctua be able to cool nearly as well?
