[SOLVED] Best all-round beginners DSLR camera under $1000 USD ?

Hi, I'm looking for a beginner DSLR camera under $1000USD that can take both decent photos and videos (preferably one that can shoot 4K30/4K60). I have some I was interested in below but also wasn't too sure if they are good or not, and if I should consider other ones. I'm not going to be too hardcore into photography/videography, but just need a good camera that can shoot good photos/videos for vacations, trips, etc.

I was looking at the Nikon D3500, Canon EOS Rebel T8i, and Canon EOS Rebel T7.

Nikon/Canon/Fuji/Pentax/Sony....
ALL will take great pics.

There is no singular "best".

And remember, with a DSLR or mirrorless, you are buying into an ecosystem.
Canon body == Canon lenses. Nikon == Nikon. etc, etc.
I am well into the Fuji X ecosystem.

Mirrorless cameras are essentially the same as DSLRs but without the mirror meaning you have to use an electronic viewfinder. They’re also not as big because you don’t have a mirror taking up space.


Fuji and Sony are the front runners depends what you want and your budget. For $1000 you’re talking the XT30 from Fuji with the 15-45mm kit lens which you can actually use unlike other kit lens’ that aren’t really worth getting. On the Sony side you’re looking at a A6000 which IMO isn’t as good both on the lens and body front but I have an XT30 so I might be a bit biased.

On the used from for under 1000 you can get the A7SII from Sony for around 700 but you’ll need to buy a lens, on the Fuji side an XT3 is available for about the same but again you’ll have to buy a lens. To note though that Sony is old now the A7SIV is available for preorder and the III made a lot of improvements on the II.

PS Fujis naming scheme essentially is they make a camera say the XT3 and then later make a smaller, cheaper model with a couple of not important if you’re not professional features stripped out and sell for a lower price. They add a 0 onto the end of those products (in this case the XT30)

Ah, I see, they do seem interesting considering their size and similar capabilities to a DSLR. I'll look into them then, thanks for letting me know!
