Currently using a very basic 70" UP7750 (LG). I don't quite understand what the numbers on Rtings mean and what I should look for, but my current TV is bright enough I think, just highly reflective. Here's a picture of it at 100% brightness, on 12:30PM:

Where I live, I could get these brand new, with a 3 year warranty:

75" TCL QM8B - $1,636
77" Samsung S85D - $1,938
77" LG B4 - $2,187
77" Samsung S90D - $2,843

There's also an outlet that sells the previous models' leftovers, all with a 1 year warranty. The LG monitors were all used to showcase the monitors in the distributor's gallery shop. Warranty extendable to 4 years for $600. The Samsung models are all either leftovers (unused) or returned items from customers, with a 1 year warranty (un-extendable):

65" Samsung S95B - $1,000
65" LG C2 - $1,010
65" LG C3 - $1,092
65" Samsung S90C - $1,133
77" LG B3 - $1,640
77" Samsung S90C - $1,780
77" LG C3 - $1,916
77" LG G2 - $2,188
77" LG G3 - $2,461

Which one would you go for?

Use-cases are 75% night (PS5 or Netflix), and 25% day (cartoons, news, occasionally PS5 or Netflix)

IMO you will get the most bang for your buck going with a previous year's TV. Therefore I think going with the LG C3 or Samsung S90C is the way to go. The S90C does have better color calibration than the C3 for out of box usage.

So you'd take a C3 / S90C for 1.8-1.9K with a 1 year warranty only (and, a refurbished/display unit) over a brand new S85D for the same price, with a 3 year warranty ?

How about getting some curtains?
Although newer monitors/TVs may help (be brighter and less reflective) you're still going to have some glare. If there's nothing specifically wrong with the TV, buy some curtains and use the rest of the money you'd spend on the new TV for new PS5 games!

Your original post said "leftovers or returned" so I took that as extra stock or returned items instead of refurb/display. I personally got an LG C8 (2018 model) in 2019 as it was extra stock that Best Buy was trying to sell. It was 100% worth the money AND it hasn't had a single issue since I purchased it almost 6 years ago. In terms of the S85D, it has pretty bad color accuracy out of box. That means extra time and money to get it calibrated. Whereas the S90C has very good color accuracy out of the box. Overall it is your money but a 65" previous model year for $1200 vs the 77"current model year for $2000 is an easy decision for me. I'd save the money and maybe get a nice soundbar or something with the savings.

The LG outlet is display units in shops. The Samsung ones sells leftovers or returned.

The S85D just comes with a 3 year warranty (including burn-ins). The outlet gives just 1 year, without burn-ins. I thought about taking the 65" S95B (almost identical to the S90C, according to Rtings), I actually wanted the 77" S90C, but it ran out of stock, and the 65" s90C uses the same 1st Gen QD-OLED panel as the S95B. Maybe I'll just get this 65" QD-OLED and put it in one of the rooms in the house (specifically a nighttime PS5 setup), and then buy something like a 75" Mini LED like the TCL for the living room (super bright there during the day).

Does that sound like a good solution?
Instead of buying just one 77" OLED like the Samsung S90D that can "do it all" (an OLED that's bright enough for daylight use). Ends up same cost.

I have played a lot of video games on my LG C8 and never had burn-in after 6 years. I got the burn-in protection for 5 years with mine and never had to use it so it was a loss of money. The QD-OLED displays are supposed to be brighter and higher color volume. The LG G3 and later series have Micro Lens Array to increase brightness and apparently it works well in bright rooms.
