best buy are the kings of "mistakenly revealed something we shouldnt have". it is a very nice price. makes me wonder how samsung got to price the galaxy tab so horrendously.

I know this is Tom's Hardware, more PC stuff, but by the comments, most of you guys don't seem to know Android or Honeycomb exist or why it's preferred over the other OSes.

We know about Android, and that Honeycomb has been rolled out to some small percentage of Android platforms. We certaily don't know why it's preferred over the other OSes, because all the statistics that we have ever seen show it behind one or two of them.

Or did you mean why some people prefer it over other OSes? Still a pretty good chance that we understand why, we just may not agree.

End of polite section. What kind of people prefer an environment in which there are no large applications, where the most sophisticated applications that you can run do Email and the majority of them have maybe three features and spend most of their time trying to sell you something? Hey, Angry Birds is great, but I haven't seen a good video transcoding / editing app for Android yet. Wait - isn't Adobe trying to port into that environment? Great, then there will be - let me count - one major application.

Edit - I don't know why Vincent Mac's post cheesed me off so much.

[citation][nom]sandcomp[/nom]Guys,It is impossible to get $399 (16GB) or $499(32GB) with keyboard. Check below pages, that's the price you get in Taiwan:16GB: $49916GB+KB: $59932GB: $59932GB+KB: $660http://it.oc.com.tw/images/1103/20 [...] 610198.jpg[/citation]

If people assume the keyboard is included then think again. When I listed $399 (16GB) and $499 (32GB) in my earlier post, it was just for the tablet. The added keyboard will probably run between $99 and $149. That said, I'm still probably going with the 32GB version and the keyboard. Total cost may come to $599 to $649 but it is still the best value I can find.

I've been researching tablet options for a couple of months now. Excluding iPad (which I won't go with for my own personal reasons), the Asus Transformer is ahead of the other android offerings.

Asus has a solid reputation with good customer satisfaction. I own several of their products already with no complaints. The Transformer gets 9.5 hours of battery life. The keyboard (with its additional battery) bumps that up to 16 hours. The tablet has 1 Micro-SD slot. The keyboard has additional ports (2x USB 2.0; 1x SD Card Reader).

I keep seeing arguments about this NOT being a notebook. If that has to be stated then it is the person making that statement that is clueless, not the person they are trying to enlighten. It's not a notebook (which is more powerful) and it's not a smartphone (which is much smaller). It is the middle ground that many people have been asking for (myself included). If you fail to see the usefulness of a tablet, then this isn't the product for you. 'nuff said.

I know I'm starting to sound like an Asus lackie, but as I said.. ..I've done my homework. Is this tablet right for everyone? Can't say. Some may prefer a smaller format or different configurations. For me, it's a good fit.

The below link shows many tablet-PC being offered for $500-700.

Yes, the middle ground, between PC and smartphone was being offered smaller notebooks(netbook as low as $250) and larger smartphone (ipad/ipad2/android around 200-400). Many consumers, myself included, want full os, right size, touch screens, and good prices. Many settle and optimize on 1 parameter. But, why not have the best of all worlds.

[citation][nom]WyomingKnott[/nom]All I want is to be able to read Web sites, in portrait mode, untethered inside my own house, with WiFi. That way, when I want to read stuff I can sit with my family instead of retreating to my geek-cave like a hermit. 10" screen, touch, who-gives-a-hoot processing power, sounds good.[/citation]
LOL I'm with you. Before all I had was my Itouch and I hated that. Now at this price rage I am very excited. I am so glad I waited.
