I called BestBuy to ask why they hadn't considered selling to people with Best Buy accounts, as suggested several times here, and other places. The Customer Service rep said scalpers (using bots) would get 100% of the cards that way. I asked if it could be a lottery, tied to Best Buy accounts. He said 100% of the cards would end up in the hands of bot wielding scalpers, with this measure. I suggested narrowing the field to Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus members, because that would only include customers that had spent $1000 or $3500 with Best Buy, already. He insisted that the same scenario would occur. When I said "all of these scalpers are Best Buy Elite members?" he confirmed multiple times that not only are all of the scalpers Elite Members, they also have bots, and that Best Buy should NOT be loyal to Elite members, because of this. I guess loyalty to your best customers is not a thing. I used to be willing to spend a little more to buy things from my local brick-and-mortar store, in order to support them, but it looks like they are not loyal to anything.

To be fair, I wouldn't expect narrowing the field to those who have spent a lot at the store would help much, because realistically that would cover a lot of the resellers frequenting the place for cards at MSRP. If the resellers can get money back on their hardware purchases by being a member, then they have likely already done so to improve their profit margins further.

And since Nvidia came to some agreement with Best Buy to be the sole retail distributor of Founder's Edition cards, they likely have some stipulations in place covering what they can and can't do with them. Restricting sales to those who spend a lot on their rewards card is probably not something Nvidia would want. Nvidia wants to at least give the impression that they are making these cards more readily available to the general public.
