Hello, recently I've been in the market for some upgrades to my setup and in the near future being in the next 2 months or so I plan on getting some PC upgrades for my lower end system I built this time last year. I've already made an upgrade to my GPU in going from a AMD Radeon HD 7750 to a Radeon R9 270 which has allowed me to play many games on ultra with a good frame rate. However, I'm beginning to notice as I dive into CPU based games like DayZ Standalone and Arma III, my AMD FX-8100 series CPU is beginning to bottleneck the system even with an overclock and perform very poorly. In DayZ alone (Which I know is poorly optimized) I barely get around anywhere with only 12 FPS which I can assure is no fault of my GPU. I'm also getting into coding as well as video editing, rendering, and graphic design (YouTube basics really). For that reason I'm really looking for a good price to performance ratio CPU. I don't really need the top of the line but something that will fit my needs well for the time being and be something I don't have to upgrade within a year. Thanks

From what I've read the I5 series CPU's delivered a better price-performance ratio than the I7's but will the performance of an i5 3570k for example be so great as to be justifiable in purchasing a whole new mobo rather than sticking with AMD? Not that I'm partial to AMD but how great will my performance be with intel?

This also seemed like a good upgrade until someone warned me that AMD worked poorly with the engine of Day Z and Arma. Also, would my mobo be a cause to the 8100 series lacking in performance? I have an MSI 760GM-P34FX.

Well, my 1.5 yr old 3570K with a Gigabyte Z87 and a Zotac 660 ti can run any game on the market @ ultra @ FHD. I7 is waste while gaming. But with a good i5 and a good GPU you can play every game out there @ultra. The key here is the GPU. You need to have at least a mid range GPU.

Yeah I know that much I upgraded the GPU to a R9 270 in January and my performance was worlds better but it was when I experimented with CPU based games like DayZ that performance crashed. I was told that a CPU bottleneck was my cause. Would an I5 deliver me better FPS? Have you tried such on your system?

Pl confirm which platform you want to stick to. Generally, i5 is better but i5 is not recommended for your stated tasks of vid editing, graphics rendering. For that i7/Xeon is recommended.

My basis of recommending Fx-8300 was purely based on your stated requirements not just gaming.

Basically, the higher end I5's and I7's have no AMD competition with what the chart shows. So I5 is they way to go you think? Future-proof too?

To be honest my graphic design has been pretty basic so far and nothing is professional. I'm talking YouTube of course. Going to an I7 though, would that deliver a far better performance than an I5? enough to justify the cost that is? Thanks for both of your time by the way figured I'd knock this out over my break.
