So here's MY issue with this whole thing.

I came here not knowing anything about the inner guts of a computer! But through a chain of events I ended up buying parts for a BUILD which have recently arrived. Due to my ignorance I bought the I5 7600 Kaby lake to install in the Asrock z370 pro mobo. Only to find out they're not compatible!! So now I feel stuck HAVING to buy a coffee lake CUP because with my mobile there really isn't any other choice! Guess that's what I get for getting into something that I know nothing about! Newbies beware!!

I don't think it's too cool to list a CPU you can't buy. The 8700K has had non-existent availability since launch. No, that's not Toms' fault, but a note about it in your description seems appropriate.

For the price, G4560 and G4600 are tiny beasts. Strong enough to complement up to $200-250 class of a GPU, no matter which sides. One of the best price-performance gaming CPU Intel ever released.

Alas, it pales in everything for general purposes and features compared to Ryzen's cheapest: R3 1200. And too close in overall cost too.

Tough decisions for low budget build. I was asked about this by my friends a lot, and leave the decision to them after elaborate each pros and cons to my knowledge. For, I, myself can't decide.
Interesting times.

How can you guys even consider anything coffee lake as they are non existent on retailer shelves ? And if you do by freak happenstance find one the are MASSIVELY over priced due to availability. where as the R5 1600 is basically everywhere and less expensive, just saying. Microcenter has it for $169.99 with 10+ in stock right now.

Ryzen 5 1600/1600X and invest in gpu like Vega 56 or a 1080ti, SLI/CF will be extinct in the near future, both nvidia and amd don't acre about SLI/CF and will go the multicore gpu route.

I wouldnt go for the 4560 or 4600 over any of the AM4 based chips, its a dead and comparatively limited platform. Going AM4 would allow you to move up from a starter cpu like an athlon x4 950 or Ryzen 1200, to a Ryzen 7 1800x, or whatever you would like in between.

Microcenter has had 8700k’s all week for $379 at my store. Availability has been scarce, but it is coming around.

i5 8400 picked above i5-8600k?! I look forward to finding in the article or the comments just why. Both US$299.99 ... the latter unlocked, the former not.
I don't get it. (Yet?)

I assume they picked the i5-8400 because it's only $199 retail. Any higher pricing is due to lack of availability and sellers jacking it up.

Why did all of the sudden did INTEL rush so many new chips out? Most of the time its a mire 2 to 5% per gen on there chips if that.
Sadly for well over 20 plus yrs I have seen Toms leans toward one chip maker then the other.
If the other chip maker blew that one out of the water we would still see the same posts.. maybe its the money hmmmm.

Thanks for catching that, Steve. This unfortunately happens from time to time with the Amazon links. I have notified the correct people and they should have it fixed shortly.

Why best gaming? The Intel chips are all broken and the fix means -20% CPU and up to -50% for SSD. Intel still sells their defective chips. Tom`s peddling broken chips. I see an ethical dilemma marketing broken Intel.
