Best gaming Processor?

The Core 2 Duo will be better at stockspeed. It can also be overclocked more than the Athlon 6400+ which is already clocked near it's limit.

The upcoming Penryn CPUs (E8xxx series) are expected to be released on January 20th. I don't know their tray prices (i.e. lots of 1,000), but expect to pay a premium of up to $100 during the initial 4 - 6 weeks due to expected overwhelming demand. When the E6600 was released in 2006, the expected street price was about $320, I remember seeing etailers selling them in excess of $400 for the first several weeks.

Some preliminary benchmarks showed that an E8xxx CPU outperforms a similarly clocked E6xxx CPU by 5% on average for games; (but not more than 7% for any specific game).

Decide for yourself...

Like I said, wait for the E8400. It provides the best price/performance for gaming. The E8500 is slightly faster but not worth the $80 premium.

Asus P5E is a good x38 mobo...maximus formula is also good.
depends on what u want, DDR2 or DDR3, and how much you're willin to spend on a mobo
