I have an R9 270X 4GB edition. I would like to upgrade. I have the R9 290x or the GTX 970 in mind. They are both around $350. I have an i7-4770 and 700 Watts of power so no issue there.

Would this not mess it up? I am also going to move my R9 270x into an older computer that strangely enough doesn't have 6 pins or any pins like that. What would be a good economical PSU to buy for my computer? It needs to run an i7, a dvd drive, a hard drive and a few small fans. Sorry for the questions I am new, what is the difference between the 6 pin and 8 pin (apart from the fact that one has 6 pins and the other has 8).

You are fine, WOW, that computer is nice! I would go for the GTX 970. It is very powerful, runs cool, and takes little power. I have the basic Windows 8.1. I think Windows 8 is really awesome, it is smooth and powerful. If you would go for Windows 8.1 you NEED to get the Pro edition! There are so many things you can't do with basic.
