Best method to compare performance of different graphics cards?

I've been looking at a few different selections for an upgrade on my computer and curious to see what methods other people use to compare performance of graphics hardware.

Any game or benchmark that is not CPU intensive.

I've been looking at a few different selections for an upgrade on my computer and curious to see what methods other people use to compare performance of graphics hardware.

The way i test GPUs, is by using 3 software. Unigine valley/heaven/3dmark (a benchmark of your choice preferably one of these). GPUz and MSI afterburner incase overclocks need to be implemented. Easy software, and if you want real world performance, grab a game (preferably AAA titles with included benchmarks), Crank all settings to max and record FPS.
But do keep in mind that you have to be running the latest drivers.

Synthetic benchmarks dont always give the same results.
