My old Trinitron VAST monitor has died on me and I'm looking for a new monitor fast. Most of time that I spend on my computer is for gaming purposes and I'm hoping that you folks can give me some recommendations on what is currently the most recommended computer monitor for gaming in the market today.

I have no knowledge of computer monitors whatsoever. Should I get a LCD monitor, or should I get a CRT monitor for gaming purposes? Which one has the lowest draw times? How long will the monitor last me?

For gaming, get a big CRT.

LCD's are nice for energy effeciency, space, but in the end, even the best LCD doesn't have anywhere near the picture quality or response time of a CRT.

At the same time, if you do move around the monitor alot, an LCD might be nice, and with response times getting lower, some people can live with the ghosting and other problems which exist with LCD's.

Can you recommend me which particular CRT monitor that I should buy?

I have been reading up on the past articles from Toms Hardware about 19" and 20" monitors but I can't seem to find any particular monitors that was recommended as being one of the best for use.

I don't totally agree! I have been using a Hitachi CML174SX with an ATI AIW 9700 Pro for the past year. The panel is FAST! No ghosting...very bright and the clarity is great. 16ms response time...Gaming is never an issue, nor TV capture, etc.

bah, i've got a samsung 172t which is just fine even for games(bf1924 , swg). plus it has a nice wall mount. might be discontinued though. don't worry about all the talk of ghosting etc. I bet you won't even notice.

Well, I didnt.

Agree, I do not have the ghost issye with my BenQ FP791 either. I think 16MS is already good and I heard that some are selling 12MS LCD now.

How long will this LCD last me if I use it at least five hours each day? Also, how is the colour and brightness when I'm you guys are looking at movies with these LCD monitors?

I heard that LCD panel can last 30,000 - 40,000 Hrs. Anyway, I've got 3 yrs warranty with it. The brightness is 400cd which is too bright for me (I use it for also 4 Hrs/day) but it is brilliant when I watching some movie. I heard they have tuner box available but I have not really try it with TV program.

My CM174 is loads better then my old 19" CRT.
Colours are great, never seen ghosting and it sharp as a pin.
Trust me one you get a nice TFT you will never go back!!!

Have heard a rumor that Acer is about to announe a zero defect policy on their new LCD range (1 dead pixel in the first 12 Months and they replace it with a new one).
Also have read a review of the Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20" LCD, it supposedly is a great monitor (20.1", 16ms/24bit, 1600 x 1200, USB hub and DVI and s-video input) for US $899, but have heard they are hard to get hold of.
