Best motherboard for phenom II 720 CPU?

Okay folks, I've decided to go with my Phenom II 720 build. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=9262245

The one piece of advice is this: what mobo do you suggest? I'm using DDR2 1066 memory, 4GB to begin with. I have the corsair 650TX PSU. I have the Sapphire 100243-1GTXSR Radeon HD 4870 1GB video card.

I'd go either this 790X with 8x/8x crossfire for $115

Some of the old 790X motherboards used the SB600, the Gigabyte MA790X-UD4 uses the SB750 which would explain the difference in overclocking with the old chip.

If your going with a 720, then your not looking to overclokc, if your going to OC you want a 740 BE with a decent cooler. You can stick with a 780G board as well.

Not true - 790GX have clocked as well as if not higher than 790FX but you getthe 'purist' 16x+16x crossfire on the latter 😛 The best depends on your needs/plans - i wouldn't rule out the Gigabyte 770-UD3 if you have zero plans of going multi GPU 😛

I am using a cheap sub-$80 Gigabyte board with 780G/SB700 chipsets, (GA-MA78GMH-US2H) 1066 Crucial memory rated at 1200, and my 920 will run rock solid all day and night at 3.4ghz by simply raising the buss.

Now thats funny! MykC, the 720 is a mad overclocker dude. Its a better overclocker than the 940BE (thats what you meant right cause theres no such thing as a 740BE) THG got the 720 to 5.8ghz on LN2.

I got the 720 mixed up with it being the non-BE version (which is the 710). So, I thought he was referring to the 710 and I was pointing his towards a 720BE. Sorry, got confused with the different model numbers across the various tiers of processors.

Well folks, based on what information you've given me, I think for now I'm going to go with the Gigabyte 770-UD3. It's the least expensive, and I don't plan on going multi-GPUs. Will I see any performance issues between this board and the MA790X-UD4 while gaming? Thanks...!
