THE VOTING PERIOD IS NOW OVER. HANG TIGHT! A BEST BUILD WILL BE PICKED SHORTLY.

Not much has changed between now and our last request for builds. It's hardly been a month since we published the feature. Nevertheless, one big piece of news has dropped. Oculus lowered the requirements for a VR Ready PC thanks to a algorithmic technology they are calling "asynchronous space warp." We thought the news was a big enough bombshell to warrant a request for new builds in an entirely new category: The $600 Oculus Rift Ready PC.

Also, be sure to sign up for our Purch Perks program. Purch Perks is a new cashback program we have available for free for all Tom's Hardware members. You all will likely be most interested in our 2.25% cash back offer on all Newegg purchases. Your cash is sent to you via mail or direct deposit every 90 days, so there is very minimal effort on your end. If you're in the market for a rig or even looking upgrade one or a few components, you should definitely look into this as the cash back offers can stack with any other super sales or Black Friday specials. Take a look.

Thanks everyone who voted in this latest Best Build feature! We'll be announcing the best build in the budget VR category shortly.

Rules:

  • ■Do not go over budget.
■Use only Amazon OR Newegg to source parts.
■Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
■Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
■Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad (Steam Machine).
■Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
Provide links to the Amazon or Newegg product pages of each component — we encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction. Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums.
■The mini-ITX must be in the m-ITX form factor and have WiFi.
■This $600 budget VR build must meet minspec for the Oculus Rift.

Good luck, and may the best builds win!

Edited out the EVGA 1060 3GB due to burning issues. Changed some parts to fit in the RX 480 and match the case nicely. Only needed $1.60 more to put in a slightly better PSU. I felt the aesthetics were more important than the PSU.

Redid it in light of recent price changes.

The mail-in rebates and promos existed on some items but weren't included in the final total, which is why I put the "Base total" section underneath. Not that it matters anyway I'll probably tweak things 3 or 4 times before the final date considering how fast prices move.

$600 is a difficult budget imo. You can't get a decent SSD, i5, $200ish graphics card, and otherwise good components until almost $700, so it's a very personal-choice oriented budget. Trade the SSD for a smaller one and a big HDD and the GTX 1060 for a GTX 960 and i5, things like that.

Just in case people overlooked this: Do not include shipping, promo discounts, MIRs, or anything of the sort. pcpartpicker has a checkbox to remove MIRs from its price listings. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have an option for removing promo codes, so it pays to double-check your links for each component manually. You can edit the displayed price once the item is in your build list if there is a promo code messing up the numbers by hitting the options symbol under the "where" column, then adding @ Amazon or @ Newegg to the text in your Tom's forum post after the edited prices.

Thanks, I just ordered all the parts, went with your built. All came to $581.43 since I used other retailers as well. Hope it's good. I don't know much about computers, but from just looking at it I was able to figure out that MB is good for overclocking and GPU won't bottleneck this CPU. I suppose that if I buy a liquid cooler in a future, I will be able to get even more out of this set up.

Wait you actually bought that. I just wanted to fit an 880K into a PC. Not sure if it can actually be used for VR. It's really pushing it considering it doesn't have an L3 Cache. It has a newer architecture than the FX-4350, but can that make up for the lack of L3 cache? It's really a guess if it will be enough as no review site has extensively tested the CPU.

AMD said the X4 880K was "VR Capable", not "VR Ready". Now that Oculus has lowered system requirements, I believe it's VR Ready (since FX4350 - Oculus min. req. - wasn't even listed by AMD as "capable or ready".
The X4 880K is about 7% faster than FX4350 since it has a slightly bigger L1, and a highter memory bandwidth (2133)
