It's official: Fortnite is the new king of battle royale. With over 3.4 million concurrent players, Fortnite tops PUBG, H1Z1, and the rest of the royales. To celebrate we're hosting a very special Best PC Builds Competition for a budget Fortnite Gaming PC. It doesn't take much to run Fortnite:

Minimum System Requirements:

  • ■Intel HD 4000
    ■Core i3 2.4 Ghz
    ■4 GB RAM
    ■Windows 7/8/10 64-bit + Mac OSX Sierra
Recommended System Requirements:

  • ■Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU
    ■2 GB VRAM
    ■Core i5 2.8 Ghz
    ■8 GB RAM
    ■Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

As you can see all it really takes to run Fortnite is a modern CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and well, that's about it.

Given the current climate for the PC building industry, that's a good thing. You'd be hard pressed to find let alone purchase anything faster than a 1050 Ti, which is why were limiting this edition of PC Builds to a budget of $500 or less. That doesn't mean $500 is a hard and fast rule. While you can't go over that budget, you can go under. We're looking for the best performing builds at the greatest value, so builds that come in at a budget of $400 or less will get bonus points when under consideration.

To sweeten the deal we're running a concurrent giveaway for Fortnite Battle Royale Limited Edition. The Limited edition has everything you need to get started playing Fortnite, including tons of goodies like 2 exclusive legendary heroes, 1 exclusive legendary weapon, 2 extra copies of the Standard Edition for your friends, an exclusive founder's chat channel, and much more. On top of this grand prize, two runner up winners will each win a $50 Steam Gift Card. Each submission to the Best PC Builds competition grants one extra entry into the giveaway, so what are you waiting for?

May the Best PC Build win!

Rules

  • ■Builds must have a total cost of $500 or less
■Only one build per budget category, per user. Multiple builds from a single user or duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
    ■Do not go over budget.
■Use only Amazon OR Newegg to source parts.
■Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
■Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
■Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad.
■Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
■Provide links to the Amazon or Newegg product pages of each component — we encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction. Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums.

Trying to stay under $500 while hitting the recommended. It takes the 1050 to equal the GTX 660 by most tests.

The idea is to get you in the game at medium settings and you can slam in a GPU down the road. To enable that future potential, it's got a spacious case with decent cooling, a reasonable PSU, and a B350 board for good measure (potential mild overclocking of iGPU and perhaps after a graphics card, mild overclock of the CPU). Had to compromise on the SSD, it's junk but it's still a 240GB SSD. I refuse to build anything with a HDD for primary storage anymore. I could have used cheaper RAM and that would have freed up cash for a better SSD like the SP550, but since the initial build requires the iGPU I felt the faster RAM was more important.

Good looking case, fully modular PSU from a respectable brand, a R3 2200G, 8GB of DDR4 at 3000MHz, an ASRock AB350M MOBO to OC the CPU and iGPU a bit and a 860 EVO with 250GB for the OS, a couple games and apps!

I think the only disqualifying part of that is you have to source parts from Amazon or Newegg....so if you hid in an Amazon warehouse instead.....:D

I didn't like it, but I had to choose between the 2200G with 2x8GB RAM and the 2400G with 2x4GB RAM. I went with the lesser APU and more RAM because the APU will be utilizing system memory for the graphics and there shouldn't be a major performance difference between the 2400G and 2200G in Fortnite.
