I remember once I when was in high school, my friend and I were researching how to hack windows passwords so we could hack into the admin account on the student PC's so we could install games on them. One site we came across said that guessing is an excellent tactic and most passwords can be cracked within half an hour.

We never did get into the admin account , but my friend cracked the password on the teachers main computer in about five minutes: 1

I was laughing so hard, and my friend was amazed that a computer teacher could be so naive. It's lucky we were good kids; if that password had gotten to the wrong students...

Aye, same at my school. The normal guest password fir windows was student/student so the other one was an obvious guess. Maybe the teachers couldn't grasp the idea of a complex password. Either way, it provided years of shennanigans until they finally changed it. Mind you, first they changed it to teacherx or somthing like that, which took, ooh, a day to work out? but they latr changed it to somthing i couldnt get. Ah well... Ahh, back in the days of Windows NT...
 
My Middle school had two computer labs and the passwords to the PC's were either Success back words or... Mt.Gleason back words HAHAHA.
 
Old school hardware hack... Friend went into the IT office where he was working early one monring and feeling in an evil mood decided to screw with his mates head.

Took out his tools and dismanteled the guys monitor. Took out the CRT tube and turned it 180deg so it was upside down. Then reasembeld the monitor and waited for the fun...

Guy comes in and boots computer and is alarmed to find his c:\ promot in the botton right hand corner and upside down. Being an IT office everbody assumed it was done via software.. Having re-formated his drive he realised it was not...
 
This one goes back a few years, but it's still one of the best I've done. Back in the days of NT4 myself and a couple tech friends were discussing the use of Poledit.exe. During the discussion one of them mentioned that you could remote poledit a machine. Naturally right after that, I had to try it.

I connected to one friend's computer (oppisite end of the office) and proceeded to change everything I thought would cause him grief, i.e. removing icons, remove admin tools, hiding options and had a message popup every time he logged in. I did this first thing in the AM.

On our morning coffee break, my friend tells us about the "virus" he got on his computer and he couldn't get rid of, so he formatted his drive and re-installed windows. It took all my will power not to fall out of my chair right there. After we got back to our desks, I started poledit again and hit him again.

Later that afternoon we're talking and he's telling me how the "virus" must've dug in really deep cause after formatting and installing windows it was still there, so he not only formatted his computer AGAIN (second time that day) but he also deleting the entire partition. At that point, I couldn't contain myself any longer and let him in on the joke. After calling me a couple names I won't put here, he did congraulate me on a well done prank.

He did learn from that tho, as a couple months later during a training class, he did the same to one of the other students :)

real easy way to take control of another person's desktop. you have to set it up on his pc first though, but still...

i used to do this in school. when you see someone working, and you take control, close what he's working on, and choose not to save. the look on his face when all of a sudden his mouse doesn't work, but yet his cursor does all of this.

another thing i used in college, was back orifice. between classes, i used to run the client on some pcs. then, exclude it from the antivirus software's search.
so, from my pc, i had a list of ip addresses i could go to to cause some (minor hehehehehehe) havoc.

the most classic one, was the ''your mouse has moved, you must restart for the new settings to take effect'' popup. we would watch people actually reading it, then clicking ok to make it go away, and then reboot their pc... idiots.

also, the clear tape, flip screen, desktop screenshot desktop, etc.
 
If they have the onboard Intel graphics chipset, CTRL-Down will invert their desktop horizontally, CTRL-Left will invert it vertically. Great for coworkers who walk away from their desk and don't lock their workstation.

I did this on my uncle's pc, when he was unable to fix the "problem" he put his monitor upside down !!!!!

NOOBS.

When you do the prnt-screen gag, you are forgetting the most important thing.

... When you complete the gag, they eventualy find out by moving the cursor to the correct edge of the screen that has the task bar.

What you need to do is, after you set the background to the image of the taskbar+icons (desktop)....

ctrl alt del -> select explorer.exe -> kill process. Much much more effective.
 
My best prank was to my roomate. I installed a Remote desktop program on his machine that is not obvious and connected to his machine while he was playing WoW. On my machine, I could see the game and control his char... So when he got up for a bathroom break, I would send him somewhere else... and when he would fight, I would control his char too... making him spin in circles. After he destroyed his mouse out of frustration... i stopped doing it.
 
Done something very similar at school one time...Decided it would be a good idea to swap ALL the keys on a keyboard...Not just 1, ALL the PC's in the tach room one lunch...Took forever to do, but my god was it worth watching them trying to find the right keyboard layout...Never found out who it was...
 
I worked at a help desk while going to college for a computer science degree in the Windows 98 days. I wrote a client/server app that I would install on a victims machine, which could create a fake GPF (fatal error message in Win 95/98) or start up a program on their machine which I could do from an app on my machine. I had the manager of the help desk ready to reformat his machine will all the GPF's he was getting. He would get so mad when a GPF message would pop up for no reason. We were all laughing so hard. It was also fun to make Solitare or Mine Sweeper pop up on somone's machine right when their boss was walking by.

I also wrote a program that would create a temp file in their windows temp folder every few seconds. Every day or two their hard drive would be completely full and stop working until they cleaned out their temp file. They could not tell where all the temp files were coming from. That was fun.
 
I did a print screen of everyone in the helpdesks desktops, made it there wall paper and hid the task bar. New name for the helpdesk is now helpless desk!

i did that too. it was quite funny. i print screened my friends computer, hid the taskbar, and disabled all of the icons on the desktop. he must have restarted his computer like 10 times before he realized i messed with it.
 
I am suprised no one has mentioned setting the double click speed on the mouse to max. For those who don't know any other way to get into a program except double cilcking an icon it works very well.

Also, change the .wav files associated with various activities to be various explatives and crank the volume always nice to have someone's office computer screaming f** you when they log off.
 
Ya thats a good one. Stop them from clicking all toghether. There are also programs that will randomly move the mouse which is funny as hell. As for changing the default sounds to self recorded ones... i havent thought of that since ol'win98 days..... I might acutaly try that. Thanks for the reminder.
