The X-Windows environment actually opens a large number of options.. :)

I used to export my display to an office buddies machine and mess with him all the time.

Push an Xclock to his term.

Or (my favorite) put a while true loop that pushes back Xterms to his display with the background and foreground colors incrementing... I would stop only when I saw the perfect look of frustration on his face. Usually after about a 1000 windows :)

Push app windows to his box.... Xmotif is excellent to play with too.. Since you can create your own windows to push back :)

In the unix env you can have some fun other than X-Windows.

I used to change a buddies .profile ..

I would just do small things that would cause him grief for hours (its the little things sometimes that are the best). I would change his $PATH to not include one of our major applications directory.... I would change a single environment variable needed for the apps to work properly... Like sending the log files to an alternate path... Or changing the base directory to some other location...

Man it hurt watching him trying to figure out what went wrong with his test runs. :)

That's not very violent. Their are far worse things you can to a person before you kill them (and thought of them)...Thumbscrews are always a favourite.

Don't even own a laptop so you can try...Would have to borrow one from somewhere, or use your own. Laptops aren't that amazing, only good thing is they're portable...Technically everything is portable to a degree...Just what does it take to move it?

Please, try worse to insult me, could do better in a tourettes class.

I remember trying a VERY simmilar prank - only in this case it was to set things so it would instantly boot into safe mode.

Mine didnt go as planned either and eventually came back to bite me big time. $900 fine 🙁

Pranks are fun, but be careful.

One of the more simple pranks I discovered is to just unplug the monitor cable. For maximum effect, you do this during finals week while you are "doing maintence" in the computer lab. The reactions are priceless when you plug the cables back in.

This one time, I had this library teacher that everyone hated.
She was the worst so I "over heard" her asking the office when the administrator was coming to help her with her pc.
After that I went to her computer and changed the desktop background to two lesbians scissoring.
Needless to say the administrator came in and saw the desktop background and she was fired.
Best moment of my life!!!

Where I work, we are all on a huge network thats pretty limited as to where you can go and what you can view, All of our profiles are on the computer we log onto and this is or can be a tinkering fun spot so to speak. I got into a coworkers profile and found his favorites for internet explorer, renamed all of them......places you definately would be caught dead going to at work. Next Morning I ask him if he had HREXPRESS link in his favorites....he says sure and as I watch he pops up IE and goes to his favorites...OMG he couldn't get it to callapse fast enough ROTFLMAO.....After he freaked for a little while with me watching from another area...I told him what I did and fixed it for him......The look on his face when he open his favs was worth a million words!!!

I have used the BSOD screensaver on a co-worker.... a "highly experienced tech".... he never could figure it out........... it does not turn off by a simple keypress or a mouse movement.... yea... it was a blast watching him write down all the different codes as it was cycling thru the different errors and trying to figure it out...... I finally fixed it for him...... poor guy.....

Our security is relatively tight and my fellow IT my co-worker (we are both in the IT dept) ALWAYS lockes his keyboard when he leaves his desk. So I used remote computer management and remote file management to change his system wallpaper to My Little Pony (from home). Many of us get in an hour or two before him and I wasn't even coming in that day so plenty of people saw it before he came in. However, he did figure out who did it because I forgot to wipe the metadata from the image file - it showed me as the owner! 🙁 Doh!
