Hi all,

Anyone know what resolution I should be getting for large 27" monitors? I have read that 1920x1080 can give a stretched image to 27" monitors and that it can look quite pixelated and blocky. Apparently for 27" monitors, 2560x1440 is the minimum res to go with. Does anyone know how true this is? Someone preferably who actually owns a 27" 1920x1080 monitor. I am finding quite hard to find 27" 2560x1440 monitor at the moment. Buying from europe so please don't put up american links. The Korean makes Catleap, Yamakasi and shimian seem to be the way to go but they are awkward to buy over here and I'm not sure about their quality. Any advice is appreciated. Please let me know if you actually own a 27" 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 and what you thought of it.

Cheers

I don't own a 27" 1080p monitor but I've seen a lot of them. The picture didn't seem blocky to me but you may want to wait for a second opinion. If you're getting it for gaming, I'd recommend going with 1920x1080 because you'll need way more Vram to run games on high settings at 2560x1440. 1080p normally uses 1 gig and 1.5 gigs for demanding games, whereas 2560x1440 may need as much as 3 gigs, depending on the game.

2560x1440 is definitely the way to go with a 27" monitor. Even though you have more pixels to drive, the larger screen allows good use of the higher resolution. You get a much higher PPI with 1440p, which gives nice picture benefits.

To play at native resolution on a 27" you'll need a beefy GPU setup, but if you are spending that much on a monitor anyway, you probably have the budget to get a GPU setup that will drive a 1440P screen. If not, you need to reallocate you budget for your monitor into a nicer GPU setup, and look at 1080p 23/24 inch monitors.

Sure you could play 1080p on a 1440p 27 incher, but what would be the point of spending the money to get it? Bottom line, 1440p for 27 inch monitors or don't bother and get something smaller with 1080p.
