Best socket 775 motherboard for overclocking

what is the best socket 775 motherboard for OC?
i googled that and i get p35 based boards but i do not see any for sale
infact all the boards i see at newegg and tiger direct are all g41 or g31

can you give me a model number or a link to a good board?

I guess i should have mentioned this is for a low budget build.
I don't need the extra 200 or 300 OC i might get from a top of the line board.
I just need one that can overclock, without artificial limits and has settings like vcore.
the g41 board i got can't even do a 100 OC and has no vcore settings. or any voltage settings.

you're going to want an 650i (or newer) 775 socket board. my asus allows for 20% OC with out changing FSB or you can ramp the FSB until the chip BSOD

I am trying to find a board on this site in particular.
they seem to have good deals on older boards.

the no IO plate thing they have on some boards, i don't really understand what to do with a board with no IO plate.

i am of course open to boards on other sites
but you can now see my price range i am shooting for 30 to 50 or 60 max
maybe i need to consider the price difference i will have to pay for a board that will overclock.
but i am hoping there are a few that can do decent overclocking on that site or a similar site.

I had a P5k Deluxe that did a good job with voltage and advanced settings. Depending on what chip you're talking about, and if you can find one cheap, it might be a good option.

over 200 new and 100 used is best i see for it

I really appreciate all these results you guys are posting.
but to be honest if i was looking to spend that much on a board i would not be using a socket 775 processor.
for $250 i can get x6 1055t and tons of memory and a good board.
or if i am staying with intel a first gen i3 for around 100 a new board that can OC easy and tons of memory.
It would cost more to go with the above recommended board after adding cost for memory and cpu.


like i said i am not looking for max overclock of extra 200 or 300
what i am looking for is a nice boost from stock clock speed for core 2 duos in lower mid 2ghz range.
I have two of these a e6750 and an e6550.
i just used the 6750 to run win xp and it surprized me how fast it was.
it would be nice to try for 3.2 ghz or something like that.
and even a board To OC pentium D 945s

I want to spend 40 max on a used board. or 50 on a new one.

i can tell you the 650i is crap for overclocking quad core chips. i swapped one for a 750i and havn't looked back.

This threads a couple of weeks old now, but ...

The G'byte G41's work fairly well with the right CPU's. Using an E5200 series chip (200 MHz FSB), you will be limited by the CPU core speed. Using an E6500 or E7200 series chip (266 MHz FSB freq), you can achieve a moderate overclock while being limited by the G41 chipset 340 - 360 MHz upper FSB limit. Because there's so little headroom, CPU's with 333 MHz FSB freqs don't work well.

The newer G41's use DDR3 RAM, which is no real problem now because DDR3 is pretty cheap right now.

It's for an EP35-DS3L but all the Gigabyte Core2 BIOS's are similar. The G41 will have fewer options.

Go through the guides. Then take your core voltage off Auto and set your memory voltage to factory recommended values. Change the System Memory Multiplier (DDR3 RAM) from AUTO to 4.0. Then when you increase the FSB, the memory clock will rise in in proportion with it. At an FSB of 200 MHz (E5200), your memory clock should be at 800 MHz.

I have an E6500 in a G41 (352 MHz FSB limit) running at 3.87 GHz which I think is "not bad for such a cheap system".
