What is the best software to accelerate DVD video? I am getting one soon and want to get good frames on the movies without any stuttering or anything. What is the best?

Your hardware is far more important than the software. If you have a fast CPU, you'll be fine, otherwise you might need a hardware decoder.

No special points about it, but WinDVD is my preference.

PowerDVD and WinDVD.. you need them BOTH!!!.. I'm just teasing.. it's true though for me. I love the picture of WinDVD even though I see skips more often in it 1-2 times in a movie usually (about all I love in WinDVD is it's picture quality, they're copyright rig for downloadable installs hacks me off). PowerDVD picture quality isn't quite as good.. you really have to watch both closely to tell though.. but the features are better and it rarely skips. (mileage varies depending on system). I think it probably handles decoding a little better. They both are very compatible for DVD drives so Tough choice.. Gaaaawd if we could just mesh them! The trial versions may just be enough to give you an idea of which you like better.
