Best SSD for Mac?

Hello, I have a 2012 MacBook Pro. Currently with 2gb of ram and 500gb hard drive (which I think has died due to recent crashes and slow running even once wiped). I took it to Apple and the guy was a total time waster, therefore I was wondering if anybody could advise me on what to get and where from. Ideally I'd like to go for 8gb of ram (I understand this would be 2x 4gb cards) and 1tb ssd hard drive (if I can afford one) otherwise no less than the 500gb I currently have. I got very confused when he started saying that I can opt to have an ssd and a hard drive but with a caddy; I'm assuming he doesn't mean golf?!

he meant you could replace your cd drive with a caddy to hold a second hard drive if you wanted to. i would just go with a 500Gb SSD like the Samsung EVO. it's easy to swap out the existing hard drive. you could go with 16gb of ram (2 modules of 8gb) since ram is so cheap now. check ram reviews for mac compatibility. you need ddr3-1600.

i don't want to scare you, but it's possible the "slow running" is due to a bad SATA cable. if you have any issues after you upgrade to an ssd (slow running/freezes) it could be a bad SATA cable. they are easy to replace and you can buy them on ebay.

Thank you for helping, will definately follow your advice on these and am very interested re the cable as nobody has yet mentioned this. Hopefully all problems will soon be solved either way!
