From my experience I would happily pay 5-10% more money to avoid an OCZ SSD. I've had my OCZ SSD fail every 5 to 6 months making it a huge pain to go through the RMA process, pay for shipping costs, and be without a drive for 1-2 weeks.

Why wasn't Mushkin Enhanced included in this observation? Mushkin Enhanced makes some top ranking RAM (Blackline series) and SSD's according to PassMark. I think they shouldn't be overlooked. If you would compare the Chronos Deluxe in SSD's you'd find it ranks right up there with Intel drives. Kingston also makes some competitor drives also.

[citation][nom]Nintendo Maniac 64[/nom]Seriously? No mention of the Samsung 830 at ALL? The 128GB model is only $90 on Amazon/Newegg![/citation]
thats what i was thinking, yet they put the 840 non pro on there which the 830 outperforms. they havent upgraded the low end of the spectrum for about a year now.

[citation][nom]RichoOssavitor[/nom]Any word on Sandisk Extreme? Kind of sets off alarm bells when I buy products you guys don't mention?[/citation]
the sandisk extreme performs on par with a samsung 830 except the sandisk extreme is a bit more well balanced. i have 4 sandisk extremes, they are awesome ssds for the money

[citation][nom]NewbieTechGodII[/nom]I wasn't sure if these SSDs would be fast enough for me and my powerful machine, so I bought 2 512GB Vectors and built a software-based RAID0 on my SATAI controller. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed. I was led to believe that Win8 would boot just by my thinking it (still takes far too long at about 20 secs.), and my internet speeds would increase by a factor of 100 (nope...DSL is still crawling at 3.8Mbps). Definitely not worth it.[/citation] thats because you are using a SATAI controller, SSDs are already exceeding the capabilities of SATA ports and you have slow SATA controllers that are generations behind. An SSD would have no performance gain on a SATAI controller

@vanwazltoff
That person said already that the "SATA I" part was a mistake. If you read above though, I'm not sure if you'd get the feeling that he/she was trolling. I didn't get a reply, and I don't want to jump to conclusions.

"Mushkin's Enhanced Chronos only costs $165" Where can you find it at that price?? they are actually double that price.

i actually kept the tab open for a while and didnt read the other replys

What is the difference between the Samsung 840 and the 840 pro. I am putting it in a laptop and want to know if the 840 pro is worth $55?

@odty101
I remember hearing that the 840 actually performs worse than the 830, but the 840 Pro performs better. You oughtta check some benchmarks though to confirm these and to see how big their performance differences really are. :)

if each tier represents a 10% difference in performance, does that mean that tier 10 is 90% different (less?) than tier 1?

[citation][nom]doesthismakesense[/nom]if each tier represents a 10% difference in performance, does that mean that tier 10 is 90% different (less?) than tier 1?[/citation]
I suppose its not working like this. It should be working like this: last tier(10)= 100% then tier 9=110% of tier 10% etc etc

Ok so I went to the link they have to check the price for their 480gb ~$345 Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe and it says "Your best price" $591.98 how can that be one of the best for the money SSDs?

[citation][nom]killerclick[/nom]Mushkin Enhanced Chronos has an awful lot one-star reviews on Newegg.Just sayin'...[/citation]

I find it funny they leave those drives off these ssd charts except for one spot. I purchased a couple Chronos drives (async nand, not sync toggle nand) and they're still fast as hell. I think it comes down to the fact Tom's leaves them off because they would beat everything every time. My two in raid 0 hit 1.1GB/s reads and ~950 MB/s writes all the time... they're stupid fast and I laugh when I think about it because they're the slower model of the ones Mushkin has. I've also installed/reinstalled Windows about 25-30 times within the last year on them (crazy development stuff), so they're dependable.

I just replaced my 128gb OZC Max Iops with a Samsung 840 500gb as my boot drive. At $319 on Newegg, it was just too hard to pass up. Performance feels pretty similar, but now I don't have to keep deleting files and moving stuff around on my system drive.

i have two i am very happy with them and would reccomend. I did have a doa one for a build i did, but in less than ten minutes on mushkin support forum got a response from somone at mushkin and had an advance rma to me 4 days later. i called on a friday too.

[citation][nom]spookyman[/nom]yeah how come no mention of Samsung SSD drives?[/citation]

The deal is OCZ has tainted their brand name through their previous generation SSD's. There was a killer deal on a Vertex 4 about a year ago, and well I regret giving them a chance again, as they had a faulty firmware early on. Yeah it's fixed, but I'm not willing to take a risk with OCZ. Their Power Supply/RAM are still working for me.

Samsung, Intel, AData, Kingston, and Corsair are the brands I can trust 100% that i'll get one that will not have any problems. OCZ I have a 0% trust (afraid a firmware upgrade will kill the drive) Maybe 2-3 generations of good reliability from OCZ, then maybe I will use them

One is MLC vs TLC. Do you know the difference between SLC and MLC? I don't really, except the price difference..maybe due to longetivity or reliability of SLC vs MLC. TLC is suppose to have a smaller endurance for SSD life, but it's probably not as bad as it sounds. Basically the Read speeds of the 840 is a bit smaller then the 840 Pro, but the write speed is significantly smaller... ~500MB/s vs 100-200MB/s

i know, the rating/reviews are really low. Another thing I have realized is that reviews on items are much lower on Newegg vs Tigerdirect. Is it more picky customers, or the items are in worse condition due to different storage or shipment?
