How about the fact that the 840 Evo read speeds go way down after you have data on the drive?

Perhaps you might want to read all the details about why the Crucial was recommended. It flat out says it's not as fast as some drives in its same price range. However the M500 sports some security features that no other drive has right now. A lot of people get hung up on benchmark scores and forget that the actual user experience difference is minimal between mid-range and high-end SSDs. The M500, like the M4 before it, is just a workhorse. It doesn't excel or fail in any specific aspect. It's just reliable, consistent performance in just about any workload. As the article says, "Still, we remind you that most of the time you spend using an SSD-equipped system is going to feel the same whether there's an 840 Pro or Plextor M5P inside."

Strange Things Happening.

This is the August 2013 update which is dated July 23, 2013. That is okay as I understand about production lead times. However, Instead of current comments I can only see comments from last October.

That might explain why I don't see the Samsung 840 EVO listed anywhere in the ssd hierarchy chart

At the end of the day for most users pretty much any SSD is good enough.

That said, what matters more to me is reliability. I personally would buy based on the most reliable SSD rather then the fastest.

This might be a hard area to collect data on, but its the one i care most about. But, if at all possible id love to see SSD reviews pay a lot more attention on reliability over speed.

hmm that's funny about everyone's problem with OCZ.. I had a vertex 1 for 3 years my current Vertex 3 is 1.5 years old, My GF's PC and my HTPC have a vertex 4 and an agility 4 that are both 1 year old, my buddy has a vertex 2 that is 3 years old now that I built and fix for him. I have never had a single problem with any of these drives

i still don't know if i should choose an SSD or WD black for my next computer.SSD is fast but many people say it dies on you in less than a year or 2.on the other hand WD black is not anywhere as fast as SSD but it has higher capacity and endurance.a 2 TB WD black is about 165$.almost the same as Sandisk ultra plus.so which one should i go with?

Just switch to forum mode and should be better.

"Mushkin Enhanced Chronos has an awful lot one-star reviews on Newegg.

Just sayin'... "

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos and Mushkin Chronos Deluxe are two very different products...

Just sayin' ...

Hmmm...why is the title "Best SSDs For The Money: August 2013" when the comments appear to be written in October of 2012?

The 830 is being/has been phased out for the most part. If you look on Newegg you will notice they don't carry it anymore (except for way overpriced third-party sellers). Samsung stopped making that model pretty much right when they released the 840 series.

I know that part of it being phased out completely but people still have them and they are awesome. All I am saying is it should be included in the chart just like how they include older CPU models that you can't find anymore unless you go to for sell forums and such.

Aye, and I am looking for such a reliable workhorse since I move a lot of GB around when video editing.
The magical 50 cents or less per GB and 1 TB SSDs are almost here... come on Christmas price war sales !!

The "Samsung 830 128 GB" is listed in Tier 3 of the SSD Hierarchy Chart...

You guys have got to figure out a way to factor in reliability of these components. After reading this article, I almost pulled the trigger on the SanDisk Ultra Plus 256GB, but then I saw the very high percentage (26%) of one-star reviews on Newegg.

I went with the safer Intel 335 240 GB, based on 3-year warranty and the very high customer rating for this drive (84% 5-star, 7% 1-star). I also considered the comparably priced and well reviewed Samsung 840 Evo.

This was for an upgrade for a 2-year old laptop with a dying HDD. Replaced with the Intel 335 240GB for the system drive and a new 750GB HDD in the ODD bay - great upgrade!

Someone mentioned the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos gets 1 star reviews?
1. It's not the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe
2. I have to 60GB regular non-deluxe Chronos's in RAID0 at home, I get ~1.1GBps reads and ~950MBps writes
