Hi all

What is the best way to populate my RAM slots ?

I have been using my machine with these specs

ASUS P5QL PRO

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz

DDR2 1GB x2 ( slot-1 and slot-3 for the sake of dual channel mode )
CORSAIR CM2X1024-6400 1024 Mbytes ( two such sticks )

Recently I upgraded my ram from 2GB to 6GB with these additional sticks
-Kingston 2048 Mbytes DDR2 (PC2-6400) 400 MHz (DDR2 800)
-Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 2048 Mbytes DDR2 (PC2-6400) 400 MHz (DDR2 800)

My slots were populated this way
Slot 1
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 1024 MBytes

Slot 2
-EMPTY-

Slot 3
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 1024 Mbytes

Slot 4
-EMPTY-

Here is the way new combination I filled my RAM slots:

Slot 1
Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 2048 Mbytes

Slot 2
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 1024 MBytes

Slot 3
Kingston 2048 MBytes

Slot 4
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 1024 Mbytes

I installed new sticks in SLOT-1 and SLOT-3
I moved my previos CORSAIR 1GB pair in SLOT-2 and SLOT-4 ( hope it is still in dual channel mode)

Q. Is this combination OK or any better combination in slots possible?

Q. Slot-1 and slot-3 are sticks of different vendors, so will they work in dual channel?

currently windows 7 x86 only recognizes 3.25 gb of ram.
planning to have another win7 x64 in dual boot.

thanks in advance

Well Jay-Z my RAM upgrade was not inclined due to falling price rather for better performance.

While finding DDR2 sticks, I obtained 2GB DDR2 dissimilar ( different make ) sticks in a deal with no other option left.

Now to fully utilize my total of 6GB sticks I need some proper configuration.

currently my win7 x86 is using only 3.5GB of my RAM. rest is sitting idle.

still my system is working in configuration as in first post.

nobody is suggesting any configurations for RAM populating and other tweaks in my case.

may be I need to close this thread.

thanks anyways
