Better quality with VGA than with HDMI - something is wrong

Hi there

I just got a Philips pfl5007 tv, and I want to hook it up to my Radeon HD5450 card. It works fine in VGA, but with HDMI, it looks as if the resolution is wrong - even though the 5450 says it spits out 1080 @ 60 Hz.

I imagine the potential is better with HDMI, so I'd like to find a way to sort this out. Do you have any suggestions?

You may need to adjust the overscan(in CCC) to get the image to look right. Many TV's overscan the image resulting in loss of the edges and sometimes a blurring of the video signal.

Actually, there is a couple of inches on unused display all around the picture, when I am in HDMI mode. With VGA it is not so.

Thanks a lot nukemaster. Setting the overscan setting to 0% in the CCC and setting the TV not to scale the picture gives me a sharp picture. I am thankful for your help

Good thing your TV was NOT over scanning : ). Video cards seem to default to under scanning to compensate for the number of TV's that overscan.

My Monitor/TV(It is a PC monitor with some TV inputs) overscans HDMI and I have to scale it back and it never looks that good. Great screen, but poor implementation of HDMI.
